Hi all.

Me again!

I had my diabetic review today with my dsn, I totally lost it...I'm so fed up.

I'm being told there is no other treatment options for me despite higher levels...which makes me feel like I'm being left to die!

Option 1- continue on jardiance and metformin and eat liberal low carb diet, taking insulin when needed

Option 2- come off jardiance and try keto again with insulin nearby if needed

The first option just makes me hungry and fed up, the second option appeals to me much more.

I've asked to see a different consultant.

Sorry, just need to rant.

Oh dear. You're really having such a tough time with it. I'd have been in tantrum territory weeks, if not months, ago!

So, only two possible treatment regimes?

Nonsense!
I think that tells you more about the knowledge level of your DSN than it does about your actual treatment options.

although keto and insulin are a workable combination. But it all depends on whether you can get it to work for you.

I don't understand why you say you are hungry on Low Carb - unless you want to be hungry.
Low Carb can mean even more calories than before (if it's a Way Of Eating rather than a calorie restricted diet), so it makes no sense that you should be hungry. Protein has as many calories as Carbs do and Fat has over twice as many.

Litterbugs war mongers hate mongers propagandists.
I'm sure there's more.
I often find low carb a struggle and lose it now and again but I get back on the wagon and carry on.
I don't do super low carb I'm not strict about any of it I eat to my meter as much as possible I have never counted or weighed anything and I'm doing pretty good.
Back on the blood pressure pills but not the rest of it.
Right now I have a bowl of nuts cheese and a little Bombay mix in front of me with a glass of whisky.

I can totally understand your frustration. Very good idea to ask to see a different consultant as there are definitely other options to be explored. It’s important that whatever route you take feels workable and realistic to you, so having a shot at the second option you’ve been given might be a good idea while you wait to see someone who can explore all the alternatives with you.

Because low carb isn't low carb traditionally- they still say I need actual carbs alongside jardiance. So a slice of toast, bit of pasta etc. This increases my hunger. I'm better off cutting them out.

Perfect! I've got some almonds today. I think that's a very good point- eating to my meter. I may have to do that.

I'm going with keto and insulin for now. My levels were 5.8 before bed and now due to dawn phenomenon they are 12. Coffee and cream for breakfast.

In fairness four dsn have said that to me.

I've tried trulicity, jardiance, I'm on metformin and insulin. I reacted badly to the trulicity and ended up off work for three weeks. Honestly, that is exactly what they have said. No other options.

I feel dreadful for my outburst at the poor dsn yesterday. I'm just so frustrated.

But she has no answers for me, it was a total waste of my time. I booked the day off and everything! She just sat listening to me like I was having a therapy session! She said she would email her consultant and ask for advice. I'm just so fed up.

But she has no answers for me, it was a total waste of my time. I booked the day off and everything! She just sat listening to me like I was having a therapy session! She said she would email her consultant and ask for advice. I'm just so fed up.

I was "talking" to someone on here a couple of days ago, describing how I felt when I was having a rough time with temperature regulation (root cause appears to be thyroid dysfunction), and getting nowhere. I actually went back and read a couple of letters I had written to my GP, in which I told her exactly what I was feeling - physically and mentally.

They weren't comfortable reads, but our advisors really know how we feel. I didn't want sympathy. I wasn't expecting any sort of miracle cure, but what I did need was action - and action I couldn't do myself.

To be fair, she was very good (sadly moved from the area), but just a bit clueless, be her own admission, to what was ailing me.

What she did at that point was indeed email the Consultant at the specialist centre for advice, and acted upon it.

Sometimes warts and all is the only way forward. Sometimes we don't do ourselves any favours when we plaster that brave face on things. You know how it goes,.......

Doc: How are you today?
Me: Absolutely fine

You can almost read the thought bubble over their heads asking "Why the heck are you here then?"

What is the next step? Is she going to call you when she has had a response? Whatever you do, don't let the days just wander past. It may not be pressing for your team, but it surely is for you.

Sometimes life just keeps playing us rubbish cards.

I understand, once on meds such as Jardiance and Insulin many health care professionals will expect you to eat to your meds i.e. consume enough carbs so your meds don't make you Hypo. Even with a clued-up sympathetic HCP it can still be hard.

When the initial problem is caused by too much carbs for your body to handle by itself, then this approach of eating more carbs than your body needs just for the sake of the meds is just crazy.

@lcarter hang in there. I'm confident you'll eventually find your way out of this maze. The most important thing to remember is that when you do find your solution, it may not be immediately apparent. Results don't come overnight and, in extreme cases, can take months or even years to reach full potential. It took me a whole year of hardcore ketosis to achieve my goals. Had I not been quite so tenacious and patient, I may easily have given up hope and moved onto something else that would later prove to be ineffective.

You can give your body the tools it needs to heal, but the most powerful of those tools is time. Detoxing from a lifetime of glucose accumulation is not the work of a moment. Good luck, and above all else, keep calm and carry on :D

FWIW, my GP knows I'm doing very low carb, keto-ish, and has not recommended stopping jardience.
