The Wednesday update 30 days after diagnosis. Was 16.2 then on May1st 12.8.
Today 8.5. Done by staying under 50g Carb a day. I got changed to Sukkarto and had worked up to full dose but started getting stomach pain and trots again so rang surgery and told to stick to 3 tablets rather than 4. Im pretty happy with numbers and really determined to improve more before H1 test end July. What is a realistic aim with that in mind please?

Also il thank again the people who took time to set me on right path last month when i felt was a slow death sentence not knowing much about it.

Getting a bit obsessed with the meter readings and wanting immediate results which I know is stupid. Posted by mistake elsewhere but now at 9.9 average meter reading and after 6 week of downward curve it's now creeping up. Says on many sites between 7 and 10 is normal for diabetic2s so from 121 H1 six week ago i can see I'm doing ok. Not been excersising last 4 or 5 days as having issues with Met and daren't go far and feeling generally ****.

I would be horrified with a reading of 10. When I first started I was happy so long as the trend was downward.

When you have got your numbers under control you can aim for a top reading of, say, 7.5. You're not there yet just keep going. You are doing well.

Yes the 7 to 10 seemed to be American info?

Another thing, I'm feeling bit aggrieved with my GP as when i was in surgery the diabetic nurse left me alone to talk with doctor I noticed my info on screen. In 2015 my level was 43? Was never given any mention let alone warning? I'm thinking if told then i could have taken action and not be T2 now?
Might just be looking for excuses but after initial shock and despair I got determined and positive. Now iv hit bit of low again.its a rollercoaster it seems?

I was diagnosed in 2017. Apparently I was pre diabetic in 2008.

I could have thrown a tantrum but I figured I would prefer to use my energy to deal with the "now".

I came home hit dr Google, found this forum and haven't looked back since.

Yes of course that makes sense and i found this forum pretty much within an hour of getting home after diagnosed and learnt more suitable advice than the pamphlet I was sent away with. I see a steady stream of posters exactly where I was 6 week ago and feel so much better than i did then but having generally been very stable emotionally in life i do seem to be up and down mood and outlook since T2? I need to look long term but like I said find myself looking for shortcuts that aren't there.

When your blood glucose levels stabilize you will find that your mood improves. Don't look too far down the road. Concentrate on how you are improving.

Aye, it's a mixture of determination self pity and everything between. Swinging quickly to and fro.Gone back to 4 tablets as of today so just hoping no trots again and would like to see meter readings drop after a plateau.

If u do get trots it's only temporary just think of it as a free gut detox courtesy of the meds

So it's 40 days since diagnosis and starting under 50g carb a day and built up to 4 Sukkarto. After a 121 H1 then 16.2 mmol then 12.8 next 2 week at surgery I got my meter. Had it 13 days now and had one reading under 9 and a high of 11.2 but generally in the 9s and seem to have got stuck there? Had to go back to 3 Sukkarto last week but been back up to 4 and touch wood this time no reaction so hopefully my body has accepted it finally? Whilst I know 9s are not great it's halved in those 40 day so going right way. As discussed before I need under 7.5 regularly so should i be concerned it's stalled in 9s or is that about par? Food wise typical day is bacon egg breakfast. Lunch steak or fish with bit of salad and evening tends to be bit of cheese and meat or soup. Drink plenty of water and maybe 3 coffees with Cream throughout day. Some days have few berries with greek yoghurt. Iv cut my alcohol intake down massively and only been drinking once or twice a week and then under 2 pint worth a go. Been walking most days with breaks when the tablets have kept me homebound and due back to work shortly so that will make me more active. Buy nimble bread but most days have no bread.Ocassionally 2 slice toasted but had no pasta pastry in last month. So should I have cracked the 9s ?

It takes time so don’t consider yourself stuck yet. Keep going a while longer before you decide that. It’s only been just over a month.

The only things I see as options to try and shift past the stall (If it is one) are the Bread (nimble doesn’t mean lower carb really) and the pints (can you drink a spirit and mixer or wine instead as beer as it’s kind of liquid bread and very carby. Other ways forward might be intermittent fasting (Same food but in a smaller window of eating and longer fasting. Often waiting later til breakfast and finishing dinner earlier).

First few week had no bread at all then tried WW bread, protein bread or the Nimble whichever was in stock.Max 4 slice a week but could go back to zero. As for the beer/alcohol it's 2 or 3 330ml bottles maybe twice a week but may knock it on head as cant source preferred type. Dont mind Gin but struggle with Red Wine although the Mrs drinks it like Ribena so may have to educate my taste buds. Due for my 2nd H1 test July so that will tell a story. I also intend to go back to the gym as soon as possible. Just do cardio and light weight high rep which has helped me lose weight in past.

If you can, a walk can be as good as a workout.

Ditch the bread if you can. And the beer. How about just until your next hba1c?

When I started out, I couldn't be in the same room as a loaf of bread. Now I can eat one slice of hovis lower carb seeded. It's half my daily carb allowance.

Considering where you started, you have done remarkably well. I just read your post from the beginning, well impressed.

Thanks again.Yourself,Jo,HSSS and few others have taught me more and provided support when i didn't have much.
Without sugar coating it im a big bloke height and weight and gone up and down over the years, work hard to lose 5 or 6 stone then throw it away and pile it back on plus bit more and that cycle has been over last 25/30 year.Although in that time I worked in hazardous environment and had 6 monthly health checks and always had low cholestorol decent Sugars etc. This time the weight piled on and bad habits crept back and although the penny dropped and began actively dieting and gym from New year 19 it led to diagnosis April22nd. Will never put it back on and intend to lose plenty more which will help BS along the way. This has changed my life but ultimately may save it in the long run?

Hi friends. Quick update, Comfortably under 50g carb a day since last Thursday and feeling ok in general.Ordered a meter but due back at specialist Friday and will post numbers. The upset stomach from Metformin has subsided for most part but still a little inconsistent.Move up to 2 a day on Thursday in theory. My scales say i have dropped another 10lbs since using the doctors scales last Wednesday. Not convinced that is an accurate reading but will know for sure Friday.. All things considered im calmer and feeling i can reduce weight and sugar levels as opposed to the initial shock and pessimism on my diagnosis and that is largely due to advice on here.

It’s great that you’re paying so much attention to your health. As a type 1 diabetic I often forget the struggles of a type 2 because type 1s can eat whatever they want, as much as they want as long as they take appropriate insulin.

Not entirely sure about the science behind it but I believe type 2 is when fat buildup in cells causes decreased insulin sensitivity. A great way to tackle this is to do high intensity workout, maintaining a low GI and low carb diet while also taking your medication.

Being newly diagnosed means you probably have a high chance of reverse your diabetes

I'm certainly going to try.
As for the high intensity the aim will be to build up as go along but not really possible as i stand.Would probably blow a gasket?
Even when younger and played rugby I was one paced but could do the full 80 unlike other big lads but never smoked like the others did. I know very little about T1 but didn't know much about T2 til joining the club so i wish you well in your journey and thanks for replying and good wishes.
