Returning back to work

Hello I just want some advice really I am type 1 diabetic, and concerned about returning back to work. I saw that scientists are asking for diabetics to be put on the extremely vulnerable list and that we will need to shield, I’ve stayed in for 10 weeks tomorrow. But I don’t know what to do. I’ve spoken to my diabetic nurse who had told me to contact my gp as their the ones who can issue a shielding letter. thank you in advance

If you have concerns myself I would contact your gp and get a letter extending your shielding time .

I'm in a similar situation. I work in a primary school and have been off with a Dr's note which is expiring on the 12th. I asked my nurse for advise on returning and she asked my specialist who asked my specialist and he gave the go ahead to be back in a classroom which I thought was strange. I think depending on who you talk to you get different advise. I definitely won't be in a classroom, I've requested to work doing paperwork etc for now away from people

It’s so hard and now with the information that’s come out, we might need to shield after lockdown is ended. So I’m going to see what my doctor says tomorrow. But I don’t feel safe in going back to work.

Yeah same. The statistics are too high to just risk it and go back. I've only been out to exercise during this lockdown. My Husband has been doing the food shop etc so I don't have to. Seems silly to just now go back to work!

I think it probably helped that my consultant agreed it would be wise to shield. I mentioned this in my request to my GP (sent an email) but also what your work situation is and how likely it is that it will be possible to 'stringently follow social distancing'. The first question my consultant had when I asked was what job I do. Remember to explain the whole picture and any other advice from medical professionals which might also be relevant, good luck!
