I have had ecg, few doctors says its normal few say its not. It shows high heart rate and arrhythmia. I didn't take it for long, took it for just three days but it was three times a day.
It was enough for me to cause swelling in my legs. I am clueless, i have never felt short of breath but i am feeling it since last three weeks. Will get ecg and acho 2d done once more then. Have been consulting doctors since last 6 months and been yold its normal and have no heart problems. I don't have diabetes though, had pre diabetes which i fexed using low carb.
I am pleased to hear that you appear to be free of CHF but please - if the oedema persists without lengthy standing - especially retained in the feet and ankles - this is a direct sign of the heart not being able to do its job. If not CHF it IS a symptom of other organ weakness at the very least - it is NOT normal - except in the late stages of pregnancy hahaha

I am sorry but its not funny. I have had swelling since 2015 after hospital stay. I am not sure what is happening, will start doing investigations on this again.

Edema is caused by many different conditions many of which have been mentioned already. By itself you cannot diagnose anything as it is so vague a symptom. It's like telling the doctor you feel tired all the time. Everything makes you tired, so nothing can be diagnosed. I find older people who stand alot get it, it is often worse in summer, not sure of the reason, but it is. If you push on the Edema near the ankle and hold it there for a minute, them take your fonger away; is there a dent in your leg? This is pitting Edema and a GP should be consulted. If it goes down with your feet up I wouldn't worry to much unless it persists for more than a few months. Try taking magnesium and potassium supplements, magnesium is vital for healthy arteries, pottasium for electrolyte balance. Doing more exercise can also help.

I have been doing exercises and very active but it does not seem to be helping. I went from fit young adult to really sick person after the hospital stay. Not sure what was the medicine given and what effect it has caused. I have been to several doctors(GP and kideny specialist) since then and have been told they are not sure what is causinf it and yes it is pitting edema, it is big dent when pressed and I have noticed that it is worst in summer little better during cold season. I was checked for kideny but the reports have been normal since then. I am worried about my heart as my ecg has been abnormal quite alot.
Its been 5 years already and not improving at all. When i was low carb it went away quite alot to non noticeable, I believe mainly due the low fluid retention nature of the diet. I am back to high carbs and it is back again. Not sure what it is. I am tired and exhausted. Want to torture the doctor to death who was doing my treatment at that time. As antibiotics was absolutely not necessary and my reports did not show any infection.

This is obviously a frustration for you, and while this is not my speciality, I know of people who have had some relief with lymphatic drainage massage for pitting Edema. Although you may already have tried it.

This may also be breaking the house rules, but have a look at this information and consult your doctor regarding this treatment. My apologies to the moderators if overstepping.

Hi All,

Just wanted to give you an update on what's going on in case you was wondering.

So I went to see my doctors who had no clue what it could be so they taken some bloods to see if my bones was all ok and if I don't hear anything back from them everything is fine and to keep an eye on it.(come back fine)

4 weeks later spoke to my diabetes nurse who sent me for bloods to check my levels had gone up from 48 to 52 now I take 2 metformin a day I told her about my legs and told me to get back in touch with the doctor.

So went back to the doctor who sent me for more bloods tests to see if my heart was pumping ok they come back fine also.

So now the doctor has put me on Furosemide 20mg for 28 days he thinks its water in my legs am currently on day 4 of the tablets can't really tell if its helped any as I have not been very active last 2 days due to being ill.

If I remember I will post an update in 24 days time.

P.s thank you for all the above information
