This site provides links to an insurer, "DiabeticTravel.co.uk who have a worldwide annual travel policy specifically for diabetics."

I would like to suggest that diabetes.co.uk remove this link. Firstly, their policy is in no way specific do diabetes. Their medical screening is the same as any other insurer. Secondly, they show no regard for the feelings of children suffering from diabetes. My daughter was diagnosed three years ago with Type 1. She has great control and two weeks ago, because she had a sick bug, she spent a short night in hospital. Not only did your recommended company regard this as reason not to cover at all (not even with additional premium) but they had the crass insensitivity to write to a 13-year old to tell her so, rather than to me. On both grounds, they do not deserve the sponsorship of diabetes.co.uk. Or are they buying it?

I had a quote from them and it was absolutely horrendous. This is the only time I am happy to be over 50 another company who specialises in over 50's was half the price and covered more!!

With the caveat that you never really know how good the policy is till you claim on it, I will say that I have a RBS Gold Account which costs £12 a month. It gives annual worldwide travel insurance and covers my type one son as well at no extra charge.

The big question is, what travel insurance policy can anyone vouch for?

Hello guys,

Im working on a project looking at the experiences of people with pre-existing medical conditions and the insurance industry. Travel insurance, traditionally has been a headache for many people even more so if your condition doesnt meet the requirements set on a computer screen.... so we are looking to record feedback so we can demonstrate to the industry that there is a real problem with obtaining insurance and work to get the system changed.

please follow the below link to complete the survey - It will only take a maximum of 5mins to complete but will help to make a big difference

If you have any problems/ questions about this please get back to me

being ill/not being in control
i'm with Katherine on this one, at diagnosis i called the insurer for RBS account and told that they would up date their records and no changes to policy cover or any addtional payments to make. whether it stays that way if i start on the meds will remain to be seen

Hi I just booked my travel insurence with this company and they were the cheapest around at £41 for 2 weeks to Kenya. I was quoted £106 with the post office simply because I have Type 1 diabetes. Just thought I'd let you know.
