Hi guys.

I need advise. What are other people physical experience of retinopathy mainly symptoms.

I suffer severe anxiety so health is biggest worry. In past 2cweeks I've experienced floaters in left eye & in past few days noticed red vessels in same eye have become more visible. My vision been sporadically a little blurry but that seems better when I wear my glasses (wear for screens only)

Hi,

How are your BGs generally, & when did you last get a scan done on the eyes?

I have signs of diabetic maculopathy from the inital eye screening and a OCT scan i think its called on the 25th

as far as symptoms my eyes are a little blurry nothing major, no floaters or anything like that

I had my usual eye test last month and they said it was part of the ageing process and was prescribed varifocals to sharpen things up but i cant get used to them so carried on with my reading glasses, i asked the optician if he could see anything and he said they dont have the right equipment and its not something that can be seen just by looking anyway as its at the back of the eye.

ill find out more after the scan

from what ive read this could have come on from lowering my BG too quickly, i went from 77 to 34 hba1c in 3 months

Generally they are good. I am tablet controlled type 2. My last HBAC1 in January was under 50. I had scan in July last year that did show early sign of eye issues but specsavers said it was gone at my eye test in December. When i suffer anxiety bouts my apetite really suffers

I'm just confused as websites differ in in symptoms fir retinopathy. I know anxiety which I still suffer can cause mock symptoms of other conditions as can stress,

my anxiety was a struggle during lockdown I've been really stressed & run down post lockdown due to family health, deaths as well as work as well as childcare issues

yes i had the same experience it makes the back of the eye swell, it was a weird experience as for a week or so I didn’t need my reading glasses to read but needed them to see things at distance

I had a similar thing at my last screening, when the specialist had a look, he said "I don't know why they've referred you, I can't see any problems" but they've kept me on the hospital list for my tests, instead of the outpatient ones for the time bein. I must admit I was worried, but luckily my appointment came through really quickly after the dreaded letter

Hi,

I should also explain that I just noticed symptoms in past fortnight to 3weeks ago is due to 5 to 6 weeks ago my 1yr old son accidentally headbutted me in right eye while playing that resulted in slight black eye for 3 weeks & was monitoring it. It healed but then my left eye started these issues.

Hi again,

You seem a little overdue for another retinal scan. I certaily can't diagnose you.

These symptoms you have. Do they manifest in the mornings after waking? Possibly clearing up later..

Hm. Yeah the floaters are more obvious in morning especially floaters(we have white tiled bathroom) but they do appear throughout day. They don't seem to be getting worse but not getting better either

My blood vessel issues today & past 2 nights & again sporadically in previous days

Yep, it has been documented that floaters are more prominent on white or clear sky backgrounds?

It maybe worth contacting your ophthalmology department. Especially as it's been a while since the last Eye check up.

This COVID mularkey seems to have my lot in disarray? I had a letter cancelling an appointment 3 months back. (I have regular interval check up monitoring for macula oedema.)
Yet my wife, attended her appointment (non D related.) after hearing nothing. The guy said, "you shouldn't be here. But since you are..

Floaters are quite common but see an optician to get them checked out.

Regarding retinopathy, the yearly eye screening is designed to pick up retinopathy BEFORE any symptoms occur.

Hi everyone.

Thanks so much for your advise I went to the optician & happy to report that eyes got clean bill of health except problems I had are from dehydration that they gave me gel to resolve.

Have you had your blood pressure checked out too? Floaters/burst blood vessels usually pass but I have had the same from a blow before and from falling over whilst not paying attention and from high blood pressure. Blood vessels in nose tend to go slightly too as well as in eye with high bp.
