After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 years ago, I was delighted to be told I was clear / in remission after I’d been following a low carb and very low cal diet for a while. Unfortunately, this year things went pear-shaped and a month ago discovered I was diabetic once again.
I don’t want to go on medication if I can help it, so my doctor suggested I have another HbA1C test in 3 months. This has really focused me on getting my diet right. I am low carb, low cal and in ketosis at the moment. I have a glucose meter and strips which I bought back in 2016, but didn’t really use. I’ve been using them a lot now to keep me on track and see which foods to avoid. But, the readings don’t always make sense. This morning I took 2 readings first thing - 9.6 on one finger, 8.7 on another. But last night the reading had been 7.4 at bedtime. These are all higher than I’d expected.
I’m interested to see if other people get different results from different fingers or do I just need to replace my out of date test strips. I thought they would be ok just as an indication of blood sugar, even though they are old - but unopened.
I am finding it tougher going this time but am determined to make it work.
