Have you heard they're changing annual retinal screening to every 2 years?

This is in Scotland anyway.
I received an e-mail from My Diabetes My Way saying they are making this change, except for people at low risk.

I wonder how they decide who's at low risk of retinopathy, especially when well controlled diabetics can still get it.

Do you really mean at low risk or more often for those at high risk?

I know in England they changed free eye tests to every 2 years, so this does seem like a natural progression.

I know I just got my letter to go to my eye screening, my previous one was a year ago, though admittedly I do have background retinopathy and have had for donkeys years and maculopathy seems to come and go so I may count as higher risk.

Though I have had to ask a friend to drive me there (him and his wife are my support bubble so we can do that - does mean he'll have to organise work for that afternoon though so he doesn't have any meetings), cos otherwise I just couldn't get there

Edit: I'm in England

Sorry, I did mean annually for people at high risk.

Mine was done a few weeks ago. Bit of background but hopefully now my bloods are so much better it will improve

I have to be taken, it's impossible for me to drive after, so light sensitive.

Mine is due but no appointment yet. I will chase up this week on top of 3 other appointments late for 3 at home. Luckily little ones thyroid test came back in line for his age, this time.
I'm still awaiting a MRI for extremely painful gallbladder area. Luckily surgeon has told me he will remove it if specialised MRI shows why a 'thick' gallbladder on scan. Thank god for codeine.
Wishing all high risk members a successful next eye screening. All low members reassurance. :)

Here in the Netherlands it's been once every 2 years for all diabetics for years, except for high risk patients with a history of problems.

Hmmm, mine was due in April but was cancelled due to lockdown - and not rescheduled yet. Maybe this is why!

They said it's because of scientific reports saying every 2 years was ok for low risk diabetics, but coincidentally it's one way of getting rid of the backlog. I haven't had any diabetic checks since December 2019. I wonder if video appointments will help that backlog.

I don't think they could do a retinal scan remotely.

Obvously, but neither do they do Hba1c and other diabetic checks remotely. Many diabetics have had blood tests followed by virtual meetings with their doctor but others haven't.

I was going by the title of the thread. As a type 2 I probably have a different perspective as I never see a doctor, virtually or otherwise, about my diabetes. I had my retinal screening last week, albeit 9 months late. Maybe the results letter will mention the time to the next scan.

I was due mine in November but not heard anything yet - perhaps that explains it

Just recently had mine done. It was about a year and half between my first and second due to covid.
I had a slight change in my eyes so would rather get seen yearly for that reason so let's see what happens

To follow up, my results came back all clear as they were last time. The letter says my next scan will be January 2022, so there isn't a two year gap in my case.

I had mine done in November 2020 (it was 8 months late in getting done) anyhow letter said it was fine and I would be seen again in a year's time so ... wait and see I guess ...
