Treat carefully, look great but Siberian Husky/Malamute forget that idea had 2 , ok if you get a good puppy but too much of a lottery, they'll eat anything smaller than themselves, won't last seconds. I've Black lab retriever easy to teach and mega intelligent. You only live once, go and visit, by rights the puppy will pick you.. can't explain it happened to me three times. Good luck

@Bash_ looks like this may have posted in the wrong place as it’s not related to anything on this thread. Would you like it moved to the place you intended? Let me or one of the mods know!

Hi @Tigragirl ,

A warm welcome to the forum.

Your post may get a little lost in this topic. Would you like me or a member of the mod team to give you your own thread with it.
You may get more specific replies to your questions..?
Thank you Jaylee, I have been looking around the website and there is a lot of info. I will keep reading. I don’t think I want a thread. I’m sure I will work things out. I’m going to read up about testing strips, despite what the nurse said, they seem to be the way to start to help at least them you can start to get a grasp on what your body can deal with and what it can’t.
Thank you for the offer of a thread though.

Hi. All,

My name is Richard, type 2 diabetic for around 20 years.

My weight is out of control (146kg) and my blood glucose with it.

Had blood test last week hb1ac was described as "off the scale" I think a figure of 130 was mentioned. Finger prick test by the nurse was 24! I'm already on Metformin and Gliclazide.

Action required!

I'm in Braintree, Essex, UK.

I'm 59, married for 37 years with two grown up Sons and 4 grand daughters.

I enjoy wood turning although I'm not as good as I'd like to be. I have a marine fish tank which I enjoy.

I work part time self employed in temporary traffic management.

We have a chocolate coloured Cockapoo called Charlie.

I have a couple of tattoos, most notable of which is ET bursting out of my belly!

I can't remember any more of the questions

Reading this forum is like a breath of fresh air,! The dn asked me what I eat in a typical day, when I listed it she said, that doesn't seem unreasonable, why do you think you are so overweight...... I've found the answer here in this forum. From what I'm reading, while you still accept carbs in your diet, the diabetes is self fulfilling, it's like a viscious circle.

I need help.

Hello Pete, I think you're the first UK person to appear on this thread after me. I was diagnosed in December and am on a do-it-yourself regime aiming to get into remission. Have you had any useful advice from your GP?
Chris.
I am the last person to be giving advice on diets... My current one is from my Army days, where I wanted to pass a rigorous test to join the Para wing of 33 RE. Here it is..
Breakfast, tin of pilchards or sardines, two slices of buttered, thick sliced wholemeal bread, toasted.
Lunch. Two slice of thick sliced, topped with cheese and mushrooms. Either toasted or raw.
Dinner. 450gm Raspberry, Cranberry and Blueberry Bio Yoghurt.
5 Clementine oranges, spread out through the day.
Try to drink 5 litres of of Vimto No sugar, Cordial. 150ml of cordial, diluted with 600ml of water.
Does it work?
I was 95kgs, now 80kgs. I walk a mile, twice a day, exercise on a rowing machine, twice a day.
As for meds, have just started on Basal Insulin, which isn't working as it should.
My GP and the specialist nurse have been of no help, apart from sending me for blood tests.
We have all this info, with nothing to show why my sugars are so high...

Hi @Kasandrich , I somehow put in the wrong link in my earlier reply to you. I've edited the post to show this link : https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/basic-information-for-newly-diagnosed-diabetics.17088/

We have all this info, with nothing to show why my sugars are so high...
You're eating quite a lot of carbs with all the bread and oranges, most on here wouldn't be able to eat what you eat without seeing high numbers. Have you thought about changing your eating habits a little? You might want to have a look at the above link as well.
Mind, if you do change what you eat, keep a VERY close eye on your blood glucose and don't just ditch all the carbs because you're on insulin. You don't want to give yourself a nasty hypo!
Also, keep something sweet on hand at all times in case you do go low.

Hi,
My 83 year old Dad is currently in hospital where his blood sugar is being monitored. He had Type 2 diabetes a few years ago but managed to control it with his diet. He had his covid vaccine (Astra Zeneca) at the end of January and had no apparent side effects. He started to go off his food during Feb and was eventually admitted to hospital with high blood sugar and dehydration. It never occurred to me until I’ve been reading more into the side effects of the vaccine and that your immune system requires glucose for energy to fight it. I haven’t been able to speak to his doctor as yet but was wondering if it’s just coincidence that he’s now going to need insulin and is essentially Type 1 now.

Hi Pete, there is a lot of detail in what you write, except that you don't state (1) your average daily calorie intake and (2) your average number of grams of carbs. It would be interesting to know what these are.
