Auto immune disease linked to type I

Does anyone out there have another auto immune disease as well as type1 diabetes?
I developed type1 suddenly 9 years ago and although my control is really good I’ve never felt completely right. At first I would have a few episodes of dizziness and fatigue but then it would go like a switch flicking. This has gradually got worse with longer episodes where the good days are few and far between. Have been to docs lots of times but nothing seems to get done. Am feeling a nuisance and do not know where to turn. Just feel my immune system is out of sync.

I believe quite a few of us have more than one immune system issue.
Once you have one you are more likely to be diagnosed with more mainly cos to get one in the fist place your immune system has gone a bit wonky.
I've recently got my third immune system issue diagnosed (T1, Coeliac and now hyperthyroidism), but this latest one took its time to show up (4ish decades after I got T1)

Hi, I have more than 1 auto immune condition, Type 1 is linked to a few conditions.
I can't advise or help with your ongoing condition, but I do hope you can find an answer soon and you can start to feel well again.
All the best.

Hi there. It is awful when you feel so rotten & I can say you're not alone. I was diagnosed with Chron's disease 3 years ago & have been on immunosuppressants ever since. I have times where I feel like someone has pulled the plug on me & find it frustrating. However, in April last year I was diagnosed with diabetes & found in December I have type 1 diabetes & am on on insulin. I have felt cheated, been annoyed & upset that I have 2 immune diseases, when I have lead an active life & eaten healthily. I've now decided it could be much worse & I'm more determined never to give up & lead a normal life. Please make sure you keep on at the doctors or specialists to get the help you need to be well.

Hi @Markthom1, I have 4 other autoimmune conditions. My uncle has type 1 as well and he also has 4 other autoimmune conditions, all different to mine. I believe I have others, not yet diagnosed, but like you I'm finding it difficult getting anywhere with GPs, they don't seem to want to join the dots.

I’ve had autoimmune progesterone disease for about 3yrs and diagnosed with diabetes 8 months ago. Tested negative for antibodies though which is a bit of a mystery. Now I’m having issues with high-ish blood pressure.

It can be really difficult when you know there’s something wrong but you can’t get a proper diagnosis. The APD is quite rare & I’ve had to do a lot of my own research & push for tests even then they don’t know how to treat it.

I hope you can make some strides in getting back in sync soon.

Have they done the easy stuff like blood tests for vitamin D and B12?
Thank you hope you’re keeping well

I see the endocrinologist for more than 1 thing…. But nothing that I think counts as autoimmune

However I’m a bit worried about COPD as I think that maybe an oncoming issue

It’s also suggested I may have osteoporosis I never followed up on this

But had trouble waking this last couple of days as think I’ve broken my foot again

So I think there are many things diabetes can contribute to that aren’t strictly autoimmune

Diagnosed T1 12 years ago based on LADA level c peptide and T1 Gad Ab levels. Just had recent re-tests - c peptide now conclusively zero, but GAD Ab easily 10 times the typical autoimmune T1 level - may indicate susceptibility to additional autoimmune neuromuscular degenerative conditions. :sorry:

Perhaps fortunately, I was diagnosed with Fybromyalgia before I was diagnosed with Diabetes. I have type 3C and require insulin maintenance much the same as Type 1. I don't have to argue with health professionals but I do get confused myself as to what symptoms are caused by what, especially tiredness which can be so draining. Hopefully, you will find a sympathetic Doctor soon.

I now have 3 autoimmune conditions - I've had T1 diabetes for 45 years and hypothyroidism for about 15. I've now also been diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis which is leaving me very sleepy each day. Like others have said, it is difficult to know which one is causing any symptoms at any one time! Luckily T1 sugars are a lot easier to check than they used to be. I am still working (part-time as I'm too sleepy in the middle of the day to work full-time) and running and cycling as much as I can get away with! I am lucky to have a very good GP and consultants for both diabetes and gastro. I'm hoping my body stops attacking itself soon and am hopeful that the immuno-suppressant for the hepatitis might help with that (but I'm not a medic so maybe it doesn't work that way ...)
