Why can’t they correct my insulin?

Hi

I am on Tresiba and Fiasp. I’m gonna start Libre 2 soon and this is gonna frustrate everyone

So my Libre 2 I got and they corrected an error on the prescription for that but the GP still can’t for the life of us seem to figure how to replace the NovoRapid with the Tresiba! I have my Fiasp, I have a slight surplus of NovoRapid and I’m running on a Tresiba shortage! I’ve got one pen now that I’m using and one in the fridge! Come on! They can correct a sensor error but they can’t seem to give us Tresiba! If I was only going to correct one item at a time I would have picked to not correct the Libres as they’re less important

Hi,

Can you clarify. Excluding the Libre. Your surgery has amended your insulin prescription to Novorapid & Fiasp??

What was your previous basal, before the change to Tresiba?

Yea it is degludec Tresiba... they prescribed it before April 2021 when they stopped it. They refused to amend it. Yet they corrected the sensors. Like previously stated, I would not mind waiting an extra month before starting Freestyle Libre 2, the Tresiba is more important. They’ve been giving the run around since I got my prescription on my birthday, which put my spirits down. At least I got out of the house on my birthday this year though, unlike last year.

My previous basal was the Levemir and before that Lantus.

OK.. Do you have a CCd coppy of the letter that was sent to your GP from your endo diabetes specialist instructing the prescription change? If so. March it (the document.) down to your surgery & request the amendment that way..

We already told the DSN. I hope that they sort that out.

Hi. Something doesn't seem right here. Do you know why you have kept changing insulins? Tresiba is a Basal and Novorapid a Bolus. Fiasp is an alternative to Novorapid and has very fast action which for many would be too fast. I think you need a bit of stability with your insulins so you can build up a stock in the fridge so you never risk running out. If you are having a problem with your surgery ask to talk to the Practice Manager. Why would you want to replace Novorapid with Tresiba when one is a Bolus and one a Basal?

I went through an exactly similar tortuous process when I changed basal insulin. I was wondering if I could order a machine gun on the internet before things got straightened out.

Hi,

My understanding of the situation is the previous basal was Levemir accompanied by Novorapid.

Both basal & bolus were meant to be changed to Tresiba & Fiasp.
However, in the absense of Tresiba on the current script, Novorapid remains.

My understanding has always been that any hospital can dispense an emergency script of you need it. I would contact your diabetes centre at the hospital (assuming this is where the advice to change basal came from) and let them know about the problem if you haven't already. If you run out of basal at the fault of your GP then at least your hospital clinic team have the record of the issue and they can be prepared to dispense the basal for you.

Really push this issue because it might be that the pharmacy doesn't have stocks of your required insulin in, and needs to order them. If you're on your last pen/cartridge then this is urgent. Make sure they are aware it cannot wait. My clinic once faxed an emergency script to a pharmacy when I was on holiday in the UK and my back up bolus became damaged (so unusable) but my GP surgery was closed to deal with the issue.

I’m back! I just finished what I thought was the second to last pen. I did find some Tresiba in a lower compartment. It’s not ideal but at least if this pen breaks then there’s a spare, technically we still had 3 left but need a top up and just used one and started another

I switched to Tresiba in 2017, but it is accurate enough, but they didn’t give us the NovoRapid after being told we didn’t need it. They tried to give yet another lot of NovoRapid and another lot of Fiasp but we refused it as
A) I had switched last Friday to the Fiasp so I do not need any NovoRapid and if I need to use NovoRapid for some reason we still have some
B) We still have 4 Fiasp cartridges excluding the one that’s in use (although as I used loads in a week, (corrections and large doses) it will need changing again soon.

We kinda need the tresiba. It’s not too urgent, but we will need them for May, why they have still not given it even after the Libre error was corrected I have no clue. Can they not hear we need the Tresiba? If I was gradually changing the script, Tresiba would have been first on the list. Even if it meant using the other Libre 1.

It’s because I was switching Bolus, but the Tresiba was knocked off the script instead of the NovoRapid
