Is it true that if you are type 2 and on insulin, that you can now get the freestyle libre on prescription???

Hi my friend is type 2 and insulin controlled. He has libre and gets it on prescription. He asked at the clinic if he could get it as he forgets to do blood tests and the alarms on Libre 2 remind him.

This is an old thread that has resurfaced.

From the PDF linked to above:

"These criteria are estimated to represent up to 20% of England’s type 1 diabetes population."

So unless this has been updated, being on insulin (T1 or T2) does not automatically give you the right to a Libre.

I'm interested to see if any Type2's could get the libre. I've heard for Type1's to get the libre on prescription is to meet the criteria. Other than that, i'd say majority are self funding on the libres.

I met a young mother a couple of months ago outside a shop. She had a libre that was visable. I said hello, and said I have one on. She told me she was type2 but was varying a lot and had been issued one.
