Have you tested your ketones? If your ketone levels are low then 'all' you need to do is get the blood sugar down.

This next bit applies to me, and will probably horrify many type ones.
The first thing I'd do is bolus 150u insulin. Test again in an hour. If I'm at 28, 27 I leave it for another hour. If I'm still at 30, I'd bolus another 150u. THIS IS DANGEROUS. What you are doing is stacking the insulin, so there is a much stronger peak over a slightly longer time. The blood glucose drops faster, but you have a higher risk of a nastily persistent hypo.

To go from 30 down to 10, I'd fully expect to have to use 400u of insulin. If you apply it all at once at the first test though, I'd need as much as 550u. I don't know if you've realised or been told, but as your blood glucose readings go down, you need less insulin to reduce blood glucose by the same amount.

You really need a discussion about bolus/basal doses with a good nurse or doctor. Waking up at 30 could mean your basal is wrong, or it could mean you have a really strong dawn phenomenon. The easiest way to distinguish the two would be to try a 24hr blood glucose monitor, again, you need to talk to your diabetes team.

Hi all still having bad time with very high readings and feeling bad I made a complaint to PALS eventually got through to someone and got the reply back yesterday with a telephone conversation with a new consultant for a 2cnd opinion this means having to go through everything again .does anyone know a straight to the point things I should be asking them to do for me as having readings mainly above 20 for over two years now tried all diets foods massive insulin amounts fasting still bloods rise .example:didn’t eat for 2 days this week to try and get levels down as insulin not working came down to 18.1 felt a bit better thought I would try some scrambled eggs they didn’t really push bloods up WRONG this time shot up to 28.7 within 10 mins and hovered around that area for 5 hours drunk 2 litres of water and had 100 units of insulin in that time only managed to bring them down to 23.4 so don’t really know what to ask this new consultant or what tests I should be having anyone had similar probs my main concern is the Neuropathy and organs probs as I lost my mother to diabetes problems in November she was just 73

Can you write down exactly everything you eat (including the amounts) for a week so everyone can take a look at it?
I suffer with almost a kind of denial, that I eat fairly well and I feel I excercise a lot, however my idea of a lot is much different to my friends as he pointed out recently and honestly I got a big shock.

The biggest problem for me is not only what I eat, but also how much of it I eat. I am very surprised that with your blood sugar that high, you are not ravenous with hunger.... I find when my blood readings are up that I am almost in a state of permanent hunger.

I wish you the best and feel your pain, try and do a bit more exercise and get your heart going, I've found that it does help me get my sugars down.

Also out of interest, what is your weight and height (That is if you don't mind posting of course).

You sound a bit stressed, it is the past. There are side effects with all medications. Most drugs will have that. There are recommendations and precautionary guidelines on the patient information sheet. Let your doctor know if any side effects start to happen. It's overwhelming when there are a lot of changes at the same time.

Unfortunately, it's all about the money. NHS funding is such that they plan to give libre to only 20% of T1s. T2s don't get it at all, (unless they have cystic fibrosis or on haemodialysis). Is it unfair? I'd argue so but health funding on this does seem to be a bit of a lottery and T2s don't seem to be eligible to buy a ticket.

More practically, the libre doesn't work well at high levels of bgs, so you'd probably need to get your levels down before it was any use for you, anyway.

I'm really glad you've finally got someone to pay attention to your situation, though. Hopefully there is now some light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck with the diabetic appointments.

Still doesn't hurt to ask, I would in your position, just be prepared that they'll probably say no.
