Just discovered a new soup!
Very nice indeed.
Base of leek, garlic, chicken stock.
Then lots of mushrooms.
When cooked, blend in brie, butter and fresh (I used frozen) thyme.
Lush!!!

for those of us wanting a bit more protein, I think it would be delicious served over diced chicken, or sauteed chicken livers, or diced sausage - especially smoked sausage. Another potential twiddle would be to garnish with crumbled streaky bacon or chorizo crisps...

I love the sound of this - Would never have thought of blending in Brie.

Gosh thank you all so much for your good wishes, they are very much appreciated. Im bowled over.

BG still high today but I guess that’s telling me something. I’ve spent the day writing letters to thank the hospital staff and trying to contact DVLA as well as trying to figure out alternatives for things I need to drive for.
Stuck to the DD meal plan today:
B- bacon and egg muffins
L- sliced Turkey, avocado and salad dressed with olive oil.
Dinner- Garam masala chicken with some green leaves.
It so nice to be home with proper coffee!

@DJC3 thinking of you and hope you’re in the road to recovery.

Breakfast - the usual egg in a cup.
Lunch - M and S seed crackers with 2 portions of Boursin, pepperoni slices and a sugar free jelly.
Dinner - beef fajitas, one carb zone wrap, guacamole, cheese and sour cream. Followed by a fibre one bar and tea.

I’d really appreciate some advice - on Saturday I’m meeting my friends for the first time in almost 6 months. We are going to a nearby cafe for lunch and cocktails, but unfortunately the menu really is very carb based. Sandwiches, pancakes, sausage rolls etc. My plan would be to have their version of a ploughman’s as it’s served on malted bread with just cheese, ham and coleslaw. I haven’t had above 25g since January. I’m trying to take a balanced view that one sandwich in a year won’t kill me - as I’m going to have to live with this disease for hopefully 40 +years and don’t want to miss out on seeing my friends and going places we like. What do you all do in situations like this? Finding coming out of lockdown the most stressful part of being diabetic :bored:

It is so difficult sometimes, I agree. I also used to get very stressed about eating out with people. Carbs are cheap so it’s no surprise cafes go heavy on them. I think your idea of the breadless ploughman’s is a good one though. You’re right that one sandwich a year isn’t going to make a huge difference. In my case I think that if I started eating bread again, even occasionally, I might not be able to manage to give it up again.
It might be a good idea to have a high protein snack before you go to meet them so you are not starving when you arrive and so less likely to succumb to the carby temptations.
Good luck, I hope you enjoy it.

I too find it difficult. I have just been out with friends to a pub and chose the cajun chicken breast, refused the bun but ate the chips (my second chips in a year!). Cafes are more difficult. Perhaps order 2 sandwiches and leave the bread? Or they might do an omelette or a salad?
I found my resolve was high tonight as had been listening to a podcast about low carb immediately before I went out. I'm sure it kept the motivation high.

An hours fasted exercise then 90 second bread with cheese and 2 cherry tomatoes for early lunch.
2 hour walk
Lc hot chocolate made with cocoa and double cream
Pub dinner: cajun chicken breast, chips, coleslaw, side salad. 1 glass red wine. 1 after dinner chocolate.
Thought bg was OK only going to 7.7 then down to 6.5 at 2 hours, but then rose again to 8.1. Bit of a roller coaster

I have slipped by the wayside over the last two days, a bit of carby stuff eaten while on the train to Brisbane, I had some food I took with me but was still hungry on Monday.

Not much for breakfast as I slept in, and St John were picking me up from the Annexe Apartments. after my appointment I got the usual complimentary ham and cheese or cheese and ham sandwiches, no egg and lettuce left.

More carby stuff on the train coming home, what hot food they had on offer in the buffet car did not suit my tastes yesterday.

Got to make up for it in the next couple of days as I have to knock a couple of kilos off from all of the coffee I drank over my 1.5 ltrs a day ration restriction. :meh:

Thanks for everyone’s advice, hoping that they might be able to accommodate or I could sneak my own bread in!

Breakfast - the usual eggs.

Lunch - Boursin on M and S seeded crackers, some slices of pepperoni and a sugar free jelly.

Dinner - aubergine lasagne probably followed by a raspberry and coconut DGF bar which I finally got my hands on.

Do they do soups? Let's face it, it's been cold enough. Failing that I'm with @Goonergal, just ask. They'll have salad type stuff at least. Especially as you are going with a number of friends you usually find they are prepared to work with you if you speak to them in advance.

Sunday bed 6.4 FBG 6.6. Swimming lesson day. Freezer still being a nightmare. It's now producing loads of ice and is there anything such as "too frozen"? Believe me the contents are so frozen they could do you a serious injury and the fridge keeps dropping to -2°. Ho hum, at least the contents (such as they are) are cold.
B. TAG and 2 slices of SLC toast with Dairylea and ox tongue.
L. Nothing at swimming.
D. Roast sirloin, GF yorkshire pudding, celeriac dauphinoise and peas. Usual campari and soda. Few cherries.

Monday bed 6.3 FBG 6.9 - a whole day off but, it's youngest grandson's birthday tomorrow so I have to go with son so we can both collect his birthday presents. Still, I got most of the day to myself.
B. TAG and 2 slices of SLC toast with Dairylea and ox tongue.
L. Nothing
D. Cheese burger on a SLC roll with mustard and an applewood smoked cheese slice. Tomato, 1/2 avocado and coleslaw.
Few cherries.

Tuesday bed 6.4 FBG 5.4 - youngest's birthday. Mum & Dad had got him a giant badge as had we and he wore both to school. He was beaming as he pointed out Everyone was wishing him a happy birthday. Yes, that might be something to do with the two giant badges on your shirt.

B. TAG and 2 slices of SLC toast with coronation chicken.
L. Nothing
D. Roast chicken with sage & onion, broccoli and I did have 1/2 a roast potato. One of these Lidl raspberry bars of chocolate.

Grandson was highly delighted with his presents. His favourite was the Pokemon school bag I got him as an extra which he tells me is the best school bag ever!

Didn’t follow the DD meal plan today as I’ve felt a bit off colour still. Just coffee, tea and soda water until around 4 pm when I was suddenly hungry.
Quick and easy romaine lettuce leaves topped with a dollop of h/m Mayo, salami and slices of Jarlsberg, eaten like open sandwiches.
2 squares Montezuma’s absolute black with almonds.
Feeling rubbish again now so an early night for me.
@maglil55 good to hear your grandson’s birthday went well and your present was such a success. The bit about his 2 giant badges made me smile bless him.

Bacon and a three egg cheese omelette, mushrooms, tomatoes for breakfast.
Lunch was 2 x 450 ml Readi-Cat barium meal, with a side of green staining dye at I-Med Radiology.
Dinner was a peppered T bone steak, green veggies gravy.

Had another specialist appointment at the local hospital with the results of the colonoscopy from a week or so ago., not good news as a 50 mm polyp near my colon they found is malignant. So off for more blood tests, and a CT scan that they could not give me at the base hospital as they were booked out for the day. So they farmed me out to the private hospital and the radiology place there.

I have a appointment next Tuesday for the scan results and decision making time on what Plan A to do.

The barium meal helped my bgl though. :D

11:00 2 scrambled eggs with ham, 1 ketonut

15:00 for some unknown mad moment I bought and ate a whole 100g bar of milk chocolate. Why? No idea. But at least because i have a libre this week I saw the instant and prolonged spike. Keep staring at the graph to burn it into my memory.

18:30 we were all treated to a meal out by the neighbours we were feeding through lockdown. Lovely company. I had salad bowl which had a wide variety of ingredients so was expecting a rise, but no stayed steady level under 5!. Salmon, lentils, quinoa, chickpeas, avocado, coleslaw, some unidentified but very tasty green sauce. One glass white wine.
Still hungry when home so packet of Cheesies and a ketonut with cream.
Libre still flatlining.

What are the hot dog rolls like? I noticed they had a piece on a new recipe or are they the same as the other rolls but just a different shape?
I love a hot dog with mustard, ketchup, onions and crispy onions!

That is upsetting news, @Riva_Roxaban . I'll have my fingers crossed on plan A proving to be relatively easy and painless, and turning out to be the only plan needed to have you as good as new!
Good thoughts sent your way!

Wednesday bed 6.1 FBG 6.4. @DJC3 - I do hope you are feeling better today. @Riva_Roxaban- horrible news. Glad to see they are getting a move on. It's so important in these cases. Stay positive. xx

B. TAG and 2 slices of SLC toast with coronation chicken.
L. Nothing - busy with home school and the back & forward. I was quite annoyed yesterday. Grandson wanted to increase his afternoon time by 10 mins per day but Dep. Head said No until his teacher comes back from sick leave. Even grandson is saying that he is trying to get back full time but school isn't helping.
D. GF sausage casserole with peas and cheesy cauliflower mash. A bar of one of these small bars of raspberry chocolate that Lidl was selling. A few cherries.

Started grandson on a large list of words to learn the spelling. We did four yesterday using good old repetition, writing them down and making sentences up including the words. The words were embarrass, soldier, queue and yacht. He was joking with a teacher this morning telling her Nana makes me laugh spelling embarrass - listen and he said e-m-b-a-r-r and I said donkey to hoots of laughter. She does that because the end is Ass you know. Ah but, he remembers how to spell it.
