Weight loss and gall bladder issues

Much my experience too. I did add fat gradually afterwards building up slowly as indulgences too early had their cost in the bathroom. Not horrific but definitely noticeable. By 9 months and diagnosis and going keto there was no problem.
Hello HSSS
Can I ask what you ate ...before you had your gallbladder removed please?
I have just been to see my gp I live in Cyprus ...and I am being told to eat no fat at all
Until after surgery ...because of possible blockage in the duct to the pancreas
She is a diabetic Dr
Her warnings are strong
I am managing to add 2 teaspoons of full fat yoghurt a day with no pain
Dr David Unwin ...adds new potatoes and oats

After a spell in hospital ...and being very very ill ...my gallstones caused acute Hepatitis....both my liver and gall bladder now extremely poorly and inflamed ...surgery can only take place in at least two months time as both so sick....I have one very large stone embedded into the side of the gallbladder..lots of puss and lots of small stones behind the large stone......which if I eat fats ...or I lie on my sides in bed to sleep...painfully move into the tubes ...and are very distressing ...I am at a complete flumux ...as to what to eat and do ...I have been told ...to eat a very strict no fat diet ...my weight is dropping rapidly ....I have lost a stone in weight in 12 days .... I need foods to heal my very ill liver damage ...my Y-gt readings went from a healthy under 39 to over 2000 when admitted into hospital ..with fever...nausea....weakness...extreme pain and swollen stomach....I know that LCHF can heal my liver ...but ....with my gall bladder also so ill ....a LCHF diet could cause me terrible injuries if the gallstones start to move out ...only good news...my Hbc1 blood sugars are at 5.9 at the moment ...so under control ...any help appreciated

my whole family ,parents and siblings, have had gallstone problems and their gall bladders removed as a result. I am the lone holdout. been on lchf+if for about 5 months now with great results. No issues with the gall bladder however after reading this thread I am starting to question whether I should continue on the path I am on to reverse my t2d and risk the same fate. I will remain on course but mention it to my doc when I see him next to see what he recommends although he is not a believer of IF. any comments

But LCHF is exactly the way to avoid gall bladder problems, as it makes the gall bladder contact and expel the bile which would otherwise stagnate and form stones.

Yeah, It appears LCHF is preventative for gall stones, but can put existing stones into motion, which reveals the problem. But that said, IMO diabetes is a MUCH more pressing health issue that gall stones. Diabetes is the single biggest factor for heart disease, and therefor heart attack and stroke. Losing your GB can cause some GI distress, but many people do just fine. High blood sugar will take years off your life and seriously degrade your quality of life. If you can reverse it, you should think carefully about the trade-off here.

An acquaintance of mine was due to have surgery after a scan showed gallstones, but somehow he was left off the list. After some time he saw the doctor again and asked about it - oh dear.
The original scan had gone out of date, so another was organised and he did not have any stones.
It was thought that his changing to a higher fat diet, cautiously, had resulted in the bile getting moving and the stones either being expelled or dissolved away.

yup happened to me. I had three nasty gallbladder episodes earlier this year after several months of low carb, thankfully none recently. Had ultrasound where technician said "oh boy yes you've got gallstones!". I have an outstanding appointment to visit specialists. Can't really advise as I'm working it out for myself. I guess she should have a scan to establish if she has gallstones, then have a meeting with the specialists to determine her options. At least that's the route I'm taking. Word is that higher fat will help the gallbladder but can have nasty effects if gallstones already exist and then start shifting about. The keto diet isn't the problem, the already existing gallstones are. I'm undecided if I should see it forward and hope that the gallstones either stay quiet or (fantasy land?) disappear or just have gallbladder out and accept the damage has already been done.
Would be happy if you could report ongoing experiences in the interest of sharing.

Did your gallbladder issues resolve? Did you stick with low carb / high fat? Is the trick to continue eating fats but just not a really big fatty meals? After 2 years low carb, I went lower carb higher fat and over-indulged on the fats when we had a tasty roasted duck, among other fatty things on the same day, and I started having discomfort under my right rib. It's not been a serious attack (touch wood it doesn't happen) but it's been more than a week of intermittent aches coming and going from that area. I'm hoping it will eventually resolve too. Haven't been for an ultrasound yet but will probably go and have one soon. I'm assuming it's the gallbladder. Not sure if the liver gives the same kind of pain if there is a problem with it.

I have followed LCHF for years without any problems. A few months ago I reduced carbs even more and increased fat. I had a few pains and also pale coloured poo which floated. Over Easter I did an apple juice and water fast which I found online and expelled one big green cholesterol stone (1.1 cm across) which I think was the one that was stuck and causing the pain. Also about a dozen smaller round stones about half the size of the big one and maybe 80 the size of a grain of wheat. I told my GP after the event lol

People have heard about the female, forty and fat story, but one easy way to create gallstones is to yoyo diet - clearly demonstrated in research based on other mammals in the past. Up to recently women were more likely to have been on low fat diets and more likely to be repeat dieters. So by the time they reached 40 a few sessions of low fat followed by eating extra fats will help susceptible people develop gallstones.
The liver delivers enough bile to digest the fat you ate before, in the expectation that the same amount will be needed now. On a low fat diet that bile will sit in the gallbladder unused until it becomes sludge, then harden.
