Another sunny day, another one that’s going to be a teeny weeny bit warm.
The outdoor tap, vintage 1936, suffered what’s likely to be terminal malfunction yesterday. It’s a shame, it’s a lovely throwback tap. Still, it’s done well to keep going for 85 years. May we all last as long and look as good as the outdoor tap. May we not have the outdoor tap’s uncontrollable incontinence when we reach 85.

Morning all, had a little rain overnight and it's overcast today. Much cooler, so I'm rethinking basal yet again.

@urbanracer @Fairygodmother my bet is invitation only, and I also wonder whether their focus will be on youngsters. I think most of us would probably like to be part of the trial, even people like me who aren't keen on the idea of a pump, though I guess I'm just grateful that somewhere the research is going on that might make it available to more of us in time.

Good morning Karen, good morning all.
Yes, I agree @urbanracer, the trial subjects for the closed loop will no doubt be picked by the Lead Endo in the chosen set of CCGs. I was feeling the desire for the device that’s tantalisingly dangling from a branch of medical research. I think we’d all like a few days off from the 24/7 of T1!
In the meantime, rain. Soggy birds on the window sill. Longer cool morning hypo with last night’s basal saying farewell. It was one of those hypos that mess with perceptions so I looked at my phone screen and when it didn’t look right I began to think it’d been hijacked by cyber tech. Then I wondered if my brain had also been hijacked - that idea that’s been trending that we’re all pieces in a great big cyber experiment followed. Then I had a couple of jelly babies and soon all was back to ‘normal’.
What fun we T1s have.

Waves at everyone!

After a particularly intense fortnight of blitzing all work that needed completing, we can congratulate ourselves that we have "caught up" to where we would have been in a more usual academic year with 4 weeks to spare with just a few loose ends to keep up occupied next week, and more importantly, no need to worry if we get slung into isolation for a 3rd time this year. There are some bits and pieces to complete, but nothing that worries any of us now.

I am to be congratulated for juggling the up and down basal changes through the heatwave/me returning to my customary walking routines and only succumbing to hypos at relatively convenient moments!!

Also for persuading this year's chief dia-buddy that there were better ways of dealing with rollercoaster hypers/hypos than attacking the chocolate before the fast-acting glucose! There was a very guilty "I feel much better this week" as we did the last pre-going home check of the week after my suggestions for staving off the probable pre-lunch hypos without going too high later had been followed.

Now for a nice, lazy weekend!

Morning all, @Japes I envy your facility with managing your basal, wish I'd been that successful!

I'm one of the people who rarely has hay fever symptoms but is affected this year. Bored with itchy eyes in particular, much sympathy to those who suffer every year.

Have a good weekend all :)

It's taken a while to get the hang of it, and I have no doubts it will all go up in the air again at some point, But I do reckon the Japes' Lockdowns Project of testing it out has been well worth the hours of time and agonising about it. I still get it wrong, but I'm less afraid of trying changes now. In a normal termtime week, I edge it down from Sunday night, and put it back up a couple of units again for a lazy weekend. It's currently working for me...

Unlike my poor dia-buddy who is on fixed doses of mixed insulin, in complex circumstances and retraining those who administer the insulin would be... interesting. I totally get why the clinic team keeps to that with the complexity of the various situations. Our workplace health team and I did have a long discussion with them about how best to support and we got commended for our work! (Well, me in particular!! Sometimes, I really just should suggest I get paid to be a diabetes support specialist within my educational setting!)

Morning all. Hope the weekend was enjoyable. Off to meet my ‘Ladies who lunch’ WhatsApp group today, for the first time since March 2020. It will be a picnic outside and not in our usual restaurant. Looking forward to our catch up though. We all used to live next to each other and brought our children up together. Even going off for summer camping trips. The weather looks decidedly dodgy! But are booked int the venue at 10:30 am so are going come what may.

Yes, enjoy the picnic with your friends Becca. I order if it’ll last until bedtime, there’ll be so much to catch up on. There’s real joy in reconnecting with people after such a long and stressful time, hooray for a little vaccine breathing space.

Good Morning everyone. I wanted to share some good news. My hubbie & I treated ourselves yesterday to a trip to Six By Nico in Glasgow for lunch yesterday. I was really worried about even trying to begin to guestimate the carb content of such a meal. I contacted the restaurant and they gave me the carb content of each course. I was absolutely delighted by my experience and would highly recommend their service. It was the circus theme meal & total carb content was 41.9
