Rapeseed Oil

I can't see anything in that article which suggests that rapeseed varieties with higher erucic acid levels (necessitating removal by industrial processes) might be grown.

An associated article on low erucic use in the UK, also seeing a new problem
https://ahdb.org.uk/erucicacid
This is the article that I linked to in the first place. It describes how to manage the crop so that contamination with varieties that have higher erucic acid levels is minimised. This important as if erucic acid levels are too high in a batch of oilseed rape, that batch is rejected which is costly for the grower.

I dislike cruelty to children and animals and all living creatures. Also, I dislike bullies, extreme modern art and architecture, supermarket and shop music that is unmelodic
I always thought Rapeseed oil was bad for us?
O a television programme it's just come out as the best for unsaturated fats!
Is this correct ... does anyone know
I do know this is pretty good - I use both this and olive oil - but the best is olive oil. My former lodger who was a bio-chemist told me that olive oil is one of the few oils that when heated to smoking point does not turn carcinocgenic (poisoness )- which can affect the heart. This is also why eating burnt food from say a barbecue can also be very bad for you ie the heart.

Jonesmia - Did those people you describe visit a cardiologist about their lipid profiles, or any other specialist professional?
they visited the endocrinologists for their follow ups where they told doctor that they were on semi keto diet for last 3 months and due to which they landed up with such bad reports. hence then they were refered to cardiologist.

Possibly questions you cannot answer but relevant to the weight I would put on this anecdote…..

Are we talking one or two people or lots?

What’s semi keto? I’d be wary that they may have actually been doing nothing like keto if that’s how they described it. Possibly even carbs and fats which is not a good mix.

A referral doesn’t necessarily mean they had a problem - just that the single referring endocrinologist thought it possible. Wonder what the cardiologist thought?

All. A reminder that the thread is about rapeseed oil. Please stick to the topic.

If a wider discussion on GM/genetic engineering in a broader range of foods is wanted, please start a new thread in the appropriate sub-forum.

All. A second reminder about the thread topic, which is rapeseed oil.

Discussion about keto/semi-keto and results on that way of eating should be taken to a new thread.

Any further derailing posts will be deleted as the thread is becoming of limited value to the OP.

Thanks.

I am not sure. I have Hellman full fat mayo, which has rapeseed oil in it, and it hasnt negatively impacted my cholesterol levels so far, after 9 years of checks.

Hope you are feeling better.

I'm afraid progs like that simply wind me up these days.. so many half or mistruths and mainly misleading based on old or poor studies and data.

My view is that seed oils are best avoided totally. Use butter or animal fats instead.
Thank you

I find this very interesting. I use Olive Oil too so it's reassuring to know it's a great choice.

People that can't listen to other people's opinions.
People that can't say sorry.
Eating too much saturated fats in your diet can raise "bad" LDL cholesterol in your blood, which can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. "Good" HDL cholesterol has a positive effect by taking cholesterol from parts of the body where there's too much of it to the liver, where it's disposed of. is that correct??

Have a look at a book by Dr Robert Kustig called Metabolical.

In the U.K. our LDL particles are not tested. It’s the LDL-P that is important and the triglycerides.

Very interesting reading..

Posts have been deleted for derailing AGAIN after two reminders to stay on topic and start new threads for discussions outside the scope of this thread.
@coby , who started this thread has expressed she appreciates the thread staying on topic because it gets confusing with everything else thrown in.

I think it's very bad manners to ignore all of this. Next one to derail gets a thread ban.

Palm is mostly saturated fat, like coconut oil right? Red palm and coconut oils are in my diet, as long as they are cold pressed. Also cold pressed avocado, olive, linseed are okay in my book. It’s the highly refined stuff that’s bad.. imho

Several years ago my knees were very painful. Dr said they may respond to physiotherapy, and that helped a little. Then I read about seed oils being inflammatory, and at the time I was using margarine and cooking oil. At around the same time I was reading about cholesterol and statins. I switched to butter, olive oil and lard, and my knees began to feel much better. In fact at aged 80 they are better than they were at 65! It may be coincidental, but who knows?
For what it’s worth my cholesterol has gone up a little, but I think it’s probably protecting my immune system, so I don’t respond to demands to ‘see the nurse about high cholesterol’.

Thinking about this today, I haven’t used any oils at all to cook for a while , I’ve been throwing slabs of meat on the grill, which get cut up and put in a salad. Haven’t been using any dressing. I did have a couple spoons of almond butter. I’ve eaten out a couple times which is a black box, but I try to order accordingly. I have tests at the end of the month. Hopefully I’ll pass
