Hi @shawie59 and welcome.....If you are on insulin your Dr should be providing you with a glucose meter and the strips that fit it even if you are on fixed doses.........if he/she refuses to do so point him towards the local NHS CCG guidelines which will tell him his responsibility and which device he should be giving........you can look these up for yourself on line on the local NHS Formulary and Guidance for your area under the section heading "Diagnosis and monitoring devices for diabetes mellitus".
If you are talking about a CGM that is a different matter and Dr's don't usually prescribe them unless directed by the specialist at the hospital clinic.

Hi @shawie59 and welcome to the forums. Assuming that you are in the UK, the NHS tends not to fund a cgm unless you have a really good reason. In particular, they aim to only fund 20% of T1s.
National-arrangements-for-funding-of-relevant-diabetes-patients-June-2020-Updated-final.pdf (england.nhs.uk)

The above, in particular annex A, says the requirements. I can only hope that as cgms become more common (cheaper?) in the future, the NHS becomes more generous with its allocation. They aren't perfect, and don't completely replace glucometers, but I certainly wish that everyone who wanted one could have one. (I currently live in New Zealand, where everyone has to self fund if they want a cgm.)

Do you get seen by your GP or by a hospital consultant?
