Ice lolly / ice cream suggestions?

It’s hotter than the gusset of Satan’s underpants out there and I was NOT built for the heat (I’m sure I was a Viking princess or something in a previous life). I have the fiercest craving for a big bowl of ice cream or a lovely big waffle cone with a trio of tasty, chocolatey ice creams… (Homer Simpson style drool) Sadly, given that I can no longer partake of such culinary naughtiness, I’m in need of some suggestions as to what else I can have. Now, the issue I have is that sweeteners all taste nasty and bitter to me, so I’m struggling to find something that will satisfy my cravings but not spike my sugars. Any suggestions, please?

Frozen dilutey - nice and easy to make, and naff all sugar. Or diet pop.

We often make banana “ice cream” at home too. Slice up a banana, freeze it, and then whizz it up in a blender. Add strawberry etc to it if you wish. Not sugar free but it’s delicious all the same!

Greek yoghurt with strawberries or raspberries, add some cream too if you like, and some lemon zest. Very nice!

I also made this recipe in the ice machine, very, very tasty! The amaretto really was only a teaspoon, so hardly any sugar, but it works well without too.
Yes, it's in Dutch, but you'll be able to work it out I'm sure, or ask if there are parts you don't understand :)

Ingredients
  • 200 melk
  • 100 room
  • 75 chocola (Aldi 85%)
  • 75 amandelpasta (100% amandel, AH)
  • 3 eidooiers
  • walnoten
  • amaretto
Steps
  1. Walnoten roosteren.
  2. Melk, room, chocola, amandelpasta verwarmen.
  3. Eidooiers kloppen.
  4. Langzaam en roerend het chocolamengsel bij het ei gieten.
  5. Terug in de pan en roeren tot het zo dik wordt dat het niet meer van de lepel loopt.
  6. Afkoelen en amaretto erbij.
  7. In de ijsmachine. Halverwege de gebroken walnoten erdoor.
@Goonergal made the same recipe without the icecream maker: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today.75781/page-2245#post-2409051

I tried Oppo once but the flavour was not to my taste.
What about freezing slices of watermelon.
At about 13% carbs, it's not too bad.

Just incase like me anyone doesn’t understand Dutch! Google Translate is a marvellous tool! ;)

Ingredients
200 milk
100 cream
75 chocolate (Aldi 85%)
75 almond paste (100% almond, AH)
3 egg yolks
walnuts
amaretto
Steps
Toast walnuts.
Heat milk, cream, chocolate, almond paste.
Egg yolks beat.
Slowly, stirring, pour the chocolate mixture into the egg.
Return to the pan and stir until it becomes thick enough to stop running off the spoon.
Cool and add amaretto.
In the ice machine. Half way through the broken walnuts.

I’d second Oppo Ice Cream and also Carb Killa choc ices

I remember making ice lollies with moulds. If you sucked them hard it would extract the squash from the ice and leave you with a clear lolly. This doesn't happen with commercial lollies (Twisters were my favourite) is there a secret to keeping the flavour bound with the ice?

Oh for a big jubilee...for those as old as me! Maybe you could get a mould and put sugar free orange squash & water in it? Lovely and refreshing and I doubt you'd taste the sweeteners.

Not keen on OPPO vanilla or salted caramel, only the chocolate!

Try putting Greek yogurt and berries into lolly moulds in the freezer. Also I find sugar free jelly very refreshing

Mini milks, the ones from Lidl are 4g carbs a piece. The difficulty is stopping at one

If you use frozen berries it's a very good ice cream imitation...

I meant freezing it, to make icegream. I don't have a kitchen device which will handle frozen fruits, but if you do this sounds very nice and very easy!

I use mascarpone mixed with frozen raspberries and some vanilla essence. Better fresh but just needs a bit of left out time once frozen.
I love ut

I do buy low sugar ice-cream sometimes, but this year I froze some of my chocolate mousse and made strawberry lollies with cream, truvia and strawberries.
I make the mousse with cream, 90% chocolate, vanilla and sweetener. 1 tub double cream 4 squares of choc. Melt the choc, slightly warm half the cream and beat the choc into it, add sweetener (to taste), vanilla and the rest of the (cold) cream, beat/whisk till frothy and divide between 4 dishes - if you intend to freeze it add extra chocolate and sweetener.
