Afternoon all,
I'm due to have surgery on my hand. I've elected for a local anaesthetic as I prefer that.
I wonder, as I use insulin, does having anaesthetic affect blood glucose or insulin?
Also, what about food. Do I eat while waiting in the day unit?

Hi I had the tendons in my thumb repaired and my toe amputated under local ! I don’t remember any unusual episodes wi5h my blood sugars , I’m type 1 so not sure how it would affect you personally , I didn’t eat before my op just in case I got a bit queasy, which I wasn’t really expecting, just test sugars before and after to make sure and just remain calm is my best advice .

Hi, opinion only, don’t eat, just carry hypo treatment, if you use libre, you may have to remove it if they are using diathermy, if you are in pain/stress etc etc. expect higher than usual bg, best of luck.
