I am about to have my first face to face GP appointment this afternoon. We moved in May 20 lockdown prevented seeing a doctor or nurse practitioner. All my prescription repeats were down on line. I had a call from a practitioner early on telling me I had too much medication on repeat. I’m deaf, couldn’t hear my partner tried to facilitate and was told that they could stay as they were for the time being. In November I had sciatica and a call from a GP with a strong accent, I couldn’t understand him. Again Michael tried to interpret. We think it was agreed to just do what we always did before my previous brilliant GP would tell me to take naproxen for a few days so that it was I did. Called for a blood test at the hospital in December b1ac 56 way over my normal, Partner rang surgery told no action needed. I reduced my carb allowance down to 50 from 80. Next test May , these had moved from hospital to a separate part of G.p surgery. Blood now 60. Result said to talk to GP going through my partner yet again told to take extra metformin and cut back on amitrypline and zolpidem and possibly go on insulin. Haven’t had a full night’s sleep since then exceedingly tired and due to pain issues spending time in bed unable to move. BG 11 through to 14.8. Finally partner got a face to face appointment for me to see the GP that rang after last blood test. So this afternoon seeing this trainee GP should she recommend the eat well plate I will not be responsible for my actions. We found out after booking the appointment that one 8 minute appointment only allows one condition to be discussed. I have multi conditions so presumably will be going backwards and forwards for a very long time just to get their present status discussed. My last GP always had time for all concerns when needed. I miss him. Am now very nervous about today.

@Norfolkmell That story is becoming all too familiar especially post Covid where we went 18 months avoiding the GPs.
I'm concerned about your increasing A1c although you're clearly lowering carbs.
If I had your 8 mins I'd ask for a C-Peptide test just to make sure that you're still producing adequate insulin.

@Norfolkmell So sad to hear this. The worry, pain and lack of sleep are probably making your BG readings higher than they would have been.
Do you test before and after meals? If so have you post prandial rises increased, or is it just that your morning fasting BG numbers are higher and th=us pushing all the other ones up?

This morning actual got a 9.8 before breakfast. Breakfast 3g mug bread toasted with butter and squashed berries on top. 18.3 two hours after nothing inbetween except lemon and lime flavoured water.

That seems more like a reduced production of insulin rather than insulin resistance to me.
So as @Ronancastled suggested, ask for a C-Peptide test to be sure.

Hi @Norfolkmell , here's your new thread :)
I wasn't sure what title to use so please let me know if you want a different title.

Unfortunately, c-peptide tests aren't done by GP's or interpreted by them. You need a referral to a specialist and high blood sugars don't qualify for a referral as type 2's can also have issues with high blood sugars. However, weight loss may which is mentioned in your information and type 1's in your family and you've been diagnosed in the last 5 years are all worth mentioningng. I hope you get the medical support you need soon.

Well I’m impressed. Spent 20 plus minutes with Dr. went through everything on my list. I’m to go back Monday for blood tests for practically everything, including C-peptide just hope they have enough bottles and that they get enough blood out to fill them. She has ordered MRI of my abdomen primarily for look at pancreas but will look at everything, marking it as urgent in the hope that the hospital will actually do it plus camera down throat.
She said that it was worrying that everything is playing up at once and could be just coincidence or something nasty but the blood tests will rule out most things. Strong possibility of insulin in my near future, strong possibility of thyroid disfunction, possibility of lupus, possibility of cancer given family history. To see her again probably end of next week when results back and she will go through everything in more detail. I may have missed some bits but I think she covered and remembered most of it.
I’m rather relieved that everything is being looked at and that she spent time going through everything but rather worried about all the possibilities.

Have never seen specialist for my diabetes but have them for everything else, that might be one of the things she said that I missed I will check when I see her again, thank you.

With all the diabetes running in your family according to your profile, both T1 and T2, has anyone ever looked into MODY diabetes for any of your family members?
It's a genetic form of diabetes and it's often misdiagnosed as both T1 and T2.

I’m the only one left now, but we knew that we had the BRCA gene plus another very rare one that both my parents had which resulted in my brother being seriously disabled so I wouldn’t be surprised if we all had something else! I will ask about it next time I see her.

Well, had loads of blood taken yesterday hba1c already back on line and 76. I expected it to be high but not sky high, waiting to hear from surgery what they are going to do about it.

I had an 84 back in April but have reduced it with a low carb diet. Hopefully they can help you to find out what is causing your issues at the moment and they can sort you out. Worrying definitely makes it worse. I was stressed out by all kinds of things and didnt change my diet. easier said than done not to worry though. Good luck

@Norfolkmell: regarding your limitation to 8 min appointments, it's worth asking when you next book if you could have a double or treble slot. Our surgery limits us to 10 mins, but I have on occasion been able to book a double one without any problems - I just needed to say what I wanted to discuss for each 10 mins.
