Booster vaccine

When my booster vaccine was confirmed, I was told that it would be either Pfizer or Moderna. Has anyone been given a choice at the actual appointment? Considering the awful side-effects that I had with AstraZeneca, I would not want to risk Moderna. Any ideas?

Hi ElenaP

I had my 3rd booster on Tuesday. I was not given a choice, everyone was being given the Pfizer locally. For my first 2 jabs I had Pfizer. Apart from a sore arm I did not have any side effects. So far it is the same for this jab

Good luck with your jab

I've still got a while to wait until I can have a booster, but the drop-in places near me that are doing booster jabs are only offering Pfizer.

Here in Australia, the booster shots are still being discussed by the state and federal governments.

As I have had my two shots of Astra Zenaca, I believe I will get another AZ not Moderna or Pfizer.

Had my third shot of Pfizer a couple of weeks ago, sore shoulder the next day, and my bg levels were raised slightly for 2 days.
My understanding is if you've had a reaction before that is actually good as it means your immune system is working well, so the next jab is no problem as your system is already up to speed.

In the UK AZ is NOT being offered for booster.
I have heard no one being offered a choice. @ElenaP I do not understand your reticence to have Moderna when you have no experience of it’s side affects on your body.

I had my third Pfizer last month. I had a choice between the three. I had a sore arm and a bit tired for two days. I'm trying to get a flu shot appt. now.

Not sure why you have major issues with Moderna I have read more about issues with Pfzer than Moderna but that may be down to more people getting Pfzer than Moderna.

I had Moderna as my first two not due a booster till 2022 - Yes I was late to the party for my own personal reason - I had no effects bar a sore arm - however I wanted to have side effects (this is said in jest) so I didn't have to go to the gym so was upset when I got nothin and had to do all my gym classes.

Are you in the UK? This is the first time I have heard of anyone having a choice.

The astra zeneca vaccine is not being given to anyone as a booster jab in the UK. The only ones available are the Pfizer and Moderna. As far as I am aware we have no choice. It all depends on what has been delivered to the vaccination place that day.

You are correct in saying that I have no experience of Moderna... For all I know, there may not be any side-effects. What is behind my preference for Pfizer is that three of my siblings had Pfizer vaccines (for both first and second jabs). They had sore arms and were a bit tired for a for a couple of days, but had no other side-effects. Therefore, I'm thinking that, having same genes, perhaps Pfizer may be kinder for my body. AstraZeneca is also a very good vaccine, and most people have no problems after receiving their jabs. However, I was really unwell for some time after my first vaccination (although less affected by the second jab).

Basically, I'm scared. I've been taken off one heart medication and waiting to have more investigation before they (hopefully a specialist?) decide what different medication to replace that with. Yet, I do not wish to delay the booster jab in case it offers protection.

From what I read from the various responses, the answer to my question is that I would not have a choice. So, this could be the case of crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

No, Colorado, USA. They asked which ones I had taken before and that's what they would give me. They had all three on-site though. The clinic was held at a local farmers market.

I just got my flu shot this morning. Looks like they started offering them Sept 1.

Pfizer jab for me booked it for next Friday as that will be six moths since my second jab, no one in France is having the AZ vaccine or at least I don't think so, flu jabs starts on the 26th October, I don't mind which jab I have but as I had the phizer jab for the first two I suppose that's what I will have going forward in the years to come

Only just had the 2nd but in both cases it was Phizer and they made strenuous efforts not to mix up the jabs because my medical records wrongly said I'd had AZ.
I am not sure why it is now perfectly okay to mix up the technologies but guess this is expediency.
So far so good with both jabs but going forward I am more concerned about the Flu, stagflation etc. than this anymore.

I think it it is because they now have the results from testing mixed vaccines, which they didn't have before.

I am in California and the only booster I have seen offered is Pfizer and I had Moderna.

I had my booster last weekend. They gave me Pfizer, first two vaccines were AstraZeneca. No side effects after the first two shots but was terribly ill on the weekend. I felt so cold, had the chills so badly and fever over 39 Celsius. Leaving the sofa was a major effort, usually i try to never lie down during the day. On Monday i started feeling much better but the glucose levels are still erratic which makes me feel very weak.
Anyway, i am so glad i got the booster but what really scared me was the nearly empty big vaccination centre her in Central London! Can't believe there are so many anti-vaxxers around.

Got my moderna booster today. So far I feel fine. My arm is a little sore. It was half the dose of the original

Not directly related to the booster, but as people are comparing jab reactions, I just wanted to say I had 2X Pfizer/Biontech, and had no more reaction than a slightly sore arm. I was reluctant to get the vaccine because I have heart trouble and high blood pressure, but my cardiologist said it would be ok. It's not the same for everybody, but Pfizer was fine for me. My Mam and Dad had AstraZeneca in the UK and they were fine too.
