Hi all. Got a lot of problems going on with my hooves. Have peripheral arterial disease and peripheral neuropathy plus plantar nodules under the arches ( feet not geographical destination ). I can walk about 10 minutes before my toes and balls of my feet burn. Not easy working in a school. Anyway…. I’m seeing a GP face to face on Thursday for advice on pain relief. I’ve had them all and as I’m also epileptic the side effects were magnified. He thinks Amatryptiline…. I think I had that and Nortryptoline before. Plus all of the others that send you mad or to sleep. Know this isn’t an advice site but if you were in the opiates lucky dip, which one would you be happiest with? I’ve not had a face to face with my consultant for 3 years and the nurse is ‘off for the foreseeable future.’ Ps I’m already coeliac and 2 stone overweight as a bonus x

I'm afraid I have no idea about opiods as I can't take them in any form. I wonder have you been supplied with orthotic insoles for the nodules as they can reduce the discomfort and pain by relieving the pressure on them when standing and walking I know steroid injections of the nodules can sometimes give relief temporarily and a physiotherapist may advocate streching exerseises but I would suppose you have already been down those routes.

So all I can do is sypathise and hope your medical team can come up with some resolution of your predicament soon.

Yes had all of the above but it would seem I’m a bit trapped with so many diabetes related conditions. I was expecting a long service medal after 46 years ! X

Just sympathy really not that you want a pity party! I have had t1 for 40 years and so far have only got some mild kidney issues and loss of sight in complications bingo.
My Fil (type 2) has neuropathy and was prescribed gabapentin for his pain/numbness. It is also an anti convulsant so may be contraindicated with epilepsy meds.
Can your school authority Occupational Health offer any constructive adaptations and why haven't you had any hospital consultations given it sounds as if you could really benefit from some specialist help here - referral to physio/dietician (certain antiocidants can help with PN)/shrink even if this is getting you down?
I am sceptical about medical help from the 'experts' but sometimes although we all battle on and always have done, there may be more out there for you if you can push more.

Thank you so much. I ground to a halt at work on Monday ( am stood up all day in a school ) and came home upset. I’m just on a roundabout of failed diagnosis’. I got a cancelled foot check on the Tuesday performed by a 22 year old junior nurse who was ‘fascinated’ by my story and proceeded to Google foot nodules. He pronounced my feet ‘perfect’ with no neuropathy? The MSK clinic then rang to put their bit in and made me cry. She referred me to orthopaedics but said she was doubtful as my case is complicated. So I battled past the GP receptionist who said I couldn’t have a face to face appointment with more then one condition. I wanted to hit her on the head with a shovel. I pompously said it was an umbrella condition with lots of attached complications. Complications must be in the handbook as she then managed to get me a call back. I’m seeing a nice GP apparently on Thursday to discuss my options. I take Alpha Lipoic Acid but it’s not working sadly. He’d not heard of it. I’ve been for acupuncture but he’s not been able to help. I’ve told work I have a kidney infection…. Thing is I can’t stop crying. I’ve defrosted the freezer today and that’s it. Thanks for your reply. My Father in Law is also on Gabapentin and type 2 and keeps Cadbury’s going. I would but my beloved Double Decker’s aren’t gluten free. Oh I’m a moaning mare aren’t I ?! X

Sorry you've got so many complications, and are feeling so low. Constant pain is draining, and when you can't find anything that helps relieve it, it's not surprising that it gets you down. Well done for managing to get a gp appointment, I hope it's helpful, and gives you some hope. If you haven't already tried Carbamazepine, that may be worth giving a go. It's an anti-epileptic drug that can also help diabetic neuropathy. Sending lots of virtual hugs x

Thank you. It just keeps coming in waves and one minute I’m weepy and the next I’m alright. I’ll ask if I can have that drug with my usual epilepsy meds. I’m worried about my licence but I’ve currently got cataracts the size of pancakes so can’t see to drive anyway! X

As you mentioned Amitriptyline, that was the only thing that helped me with the pain of a trapped nerve in my shoulder blade (affecting my back and arm) - codeine (which is an opiate) didn't work for that type of pain. At least for me. Good luck with seeing your GP today!

They’ve cancelled I rang back and got grilled. Anyway, not that I’ve ever resorted to this but as soon as I said I was depressed and a type 1 who hasn’t had a consultant for 3 years I got another appointment. Bit of tears feel ashamed but I’m desperate now. Thanks for your advise. I can’t take some strong pain killers because my stomach is damaged because of coeliac disease damage. I fancy a new body that’s all. I think at 52 and someone who could walk 20 miles a day I’m owed it x

I know it isn't funny but you are retaining your wit and wisdom through this. Glad you pushed for the appointment. You deserve it. KBO.

Come home with a lorry load of Pregabalin to feast on. Diagnosis now of arterial disease, Dupytrens disease, neuropathy , epilepsy, coeliac disease, thyroid, type 1, cataracts, frozen shoulder, menopause oh and a beard Brian Blessed would be proud of. I’m glad I saw someone even though I was cursing the fact there’s no People’s Friend to read in the waiting room as a distraction now. I only blubbed a bit. Thanks everyone. You’ve really helped x

Connie, I really hope you catch a break soon and can find some respite from all that's going on in your life.
