Some good news, I think? I was given a trial of the Libre system as my sugars were all over the show. I tried desperately to get the tests to see if I was T1 or T2 and I kept on being given the runaround. Eventually I got the tests - just to shut me up I think - and it has come back as T1. Hopefully this means they will prescribe the Libre, as my fingers were getting sore from so many finger pricks! I have an appointment with the consultant on Thursday, so fingers crossed. Why are GPs so against the tests, or is it just my GP?

Hi there, they don't prescribe libres to type 1s (or those on insulin) automatically, far from it. In fact I think less than 30% of type 1s get it prescribed and they have to jump through hoops and come within a strict criteria. Make sure you emphasise and record how many times you finger prick as this is one of the criteria for a libre that they will consider, (over 10 a day I think). Good luck.

Not just GP's, my Endocrinologist didn't want to test me and was visibly annoyed that a junior ordered a GAD test in his absence. Took a year or so between initial diabetes diagnosis and the test results confirming I was T1.
It’s interesting - I spoke to an Irish Doctor - he said that they routinely test everyone diagnosed with diabetes.

You should be under the care of a hospital specialist as a type 1, so ask your GP about a referral. I think it's more like 20% of type 1's are funded Libre's. I self-fund as I don't qualify for funding. I recommend you self-fund if you can when starting insulin.
I have an appt with the consultant at the community diabetes service on Thursday. I’m hoping they might continue it as they trialled it with me as a suspected T2 (I’ve been on insulin since that ‘guessnosis’ - and I have managed to make the trial sensors last 3 months, with dodgy ones bring replaced after a week.
Darn and blast! My 9am consultant appointment this morning got cancelled at 9:05, so it looks as though I will have to wait for some answers now. I only have 9 days left on my current Libre sensor, so I was hoping to find out if they would approve it’s continuation, this morning, now they have confirmed T1 (although I know I still have to meet their criteria).
So interesting they have just released new NICE guidelines that they will soon be offering all type 1 diabetics cgm

Just to point out over 50% of Type 1s are now on Libre or Dexcom and from April all type 1s will be eligible for either CGM or flash without having to jump through hoops. Plus some type 2s will be offered flash. The NICE guidelines are being re written as we speak. We have Partha Kars energy and persistence to thank for this.

Unless your local team (diabetes team and local GP) are incredibly efficient, I would not expect to see Libre on your repeat prescription within 5 days of discussing it with a consultant. It took 4 weeks after the consultant approved it before I was able to request t on prescription. And it took a week to get the approval after my initial discussions.
My gp was hoping I would get a libre but I had to wait till I went for my first hospital appointment to see my diabetics team.
I was diagnosed end of July this year I have had libre since October
Good news, I had my rearranged consultant appointment this morning and she has approved my continuing with the Freestyle. It felt so refreshing for once, not to have to push for something - the consultant suggested continuing with it, and I am going to try the Libre 2, so that I get the alarms. She also thinks a pump might prove advantageous.
