If it helps I’m exactly the same. It’s hard to not eat junk when you don’t get results eating the same way as others that are successful. I did low carb and keto for a while and my levels refused to come down. Crazy.
So glad it's not just me... Tried low carbs but no change in BS or weight loss :(

Hi.

I’m a type 2, but I’m not 100% convinced as I was apparently a type 1 for 11 years (I feel like I’m in-between the two) and I am on:

25mg Empagliflozin x 1 a day

Glucophage SR 1000mg tablets x 2 a day

Levemier insulin 10 units x 2 a day

Fiasp insulin with carb counting with each meal.

I’ve asked to be referred to the consultant as my levels are anything between 12-20 most days.

I tried keto for a few months and my levels were still high.

I just wondered if anyone takes similar meds to me and I’m curious what kind of diet you do and how your levels are?

Thank you.

I'm type 2 (20 years) and on insulin (5years) and I do not take any other meds.

Abasaglar at night (14 units)
Humalog before 3 meals (2 units at breakfast, 4 units at lunch, 4 units at dinner).

For the Humalog I have a chart of readings/units to inject to follow, but I rarely if ever deviate from the standard units that I worked out with my Diabetes Dr/specialist when I lived in Germany a few years ago and it works very well for me. My average readings are 6.3 and my latest HbA1c reading was 37.4

I try to eat low carb but I'm not excessive about it, I might eat some cereal for breakfast, and I eat 2 small slices of Hovis Nimble Low Carb bread most days. I avoid potatoes and other obvious carbs though I might have one small portion of air fried oven chips once a week. I do have an occasional small treat but I usually have those when I'm out exercising (walking or cycling). I need to watch how much fruit I eat as a few times recently I've been over 9 and that for me is very very unusual. Obviously all sugar is out, I never eat cakes, biscuits, sweets, chocolate, pizza, etc, but I do enjoy a couple of squares of 85% dark chocolate most days. I also avoid most low calorie soft drinks as I don't think too many are good for you anyway.

I haven't tried Keto so I couldn't give an informed opinion about it, but I think its extreme and therefore can't be followed long term, whereas low carb can easily be a lifestyle that anyone can stick to, though yes I do get cravings for some sweet stuff most days!

If I had readings of between 12 - 20 I would be very concerned, are you sure you're not eating or drinking something you shouldn't?

Are you getting lots of exercise? It's really important that you do.

All the best on your journey, I hope you get lots of ideas and help/support from the Diabetes community.

I also am on a low carb, high fat diet - for a while tried to go zero carb but couldn't keep it up, especially when BG refused to come down to a level I thought was reasonable. Low carb for me is around the 30 - 40 g mark per day. I try to stay around 20 g. Yesterday must have been less than 20 but BG stayed around 12 all day.

I have a Freestyle Libre (free under our health board) so can see what my BG is all the time. It is consistently high in the mornings and reasonable (around 10) in the afternoons/evenings. Whatever I do, nothing changes that.

A c-peptide test indicated that I am making insulin so I am T2. Despite making insulin, and injecting plenty more, my system just doesn't seem to use it.

Being unable to walk due to arthritis, I cannot do much in the way of movement never mind real exercise.

I also take lots of other medicines so that may have some effect on BG levels whatever I do.

Perhaps I should have added that I take lots and lots of insulin to gain even the control that I have, which isn't good. I take: 52u Tresiba as a basal dose and 60u Humalog before any meal, whether including carbs or not. I can't take any more insulin, even though it only seems to work after a fashion. If I don't eat at all my BG usually jumps to between 16 and 20. When that happens I use my 60u Humalog as a correction dose, which will usually bring it back down to around 10-12.

I am taking the following medication for my type 2 .. I take 44units of Humalog three times a day and 54units of Lantus at night also 2 glycacide. My control is all over the place between 10 and 22 I have been taking this for about 2years and been diagnosed type 2 for 15years. I am really sick and tired of taking this amount and it never seems to be within the range. I am now finding it very hard to inject myself as I have Parkinson’s disease. Surely there is something else that I can do to help with this thanks

I am not negatively impacted by Jardiance, but some of my friends have had nasty side-effects. My urine has a higher sugar content, as i notice sometimes after a few days a black ring start to develop in the toilet bowl. Bacteria feeding on the sugar in my urine. Also, I am using the Libre system (perhaps obsessively), so I would know virtually immediately if my blood sugar starts doing funny things.

Jardiance makes you excrete sugar in your urine, that's how it works, so urinary tract infection and frequent urination is a well known effect of this medication

I was also classified as type 1 and on insulin for over a decade as a 40 year old and fairly skinny. then I went keto and got off insulin was reclassified as type 2 but now consultant input is suggesting MODY, Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young. Does this fit you- I always called myself type 1.5!

I'm a type2 but have had a low(ish) level of self insulin when low carbing and on basal insulin with one 500mg regular metformin daily.
I lose weight on insulin alone and in the past hv lost weight on regular metformin. In these incidents however I did not hv a C-peptide blood test.
I'm happy to not argue which type I may hv been or could be or want to be. I'm now happy to just manage my bgs in the best way for my longterm health. Mentally and physically.
I'm working OK with no insulin but I too don't lose weight partly due to physical activity is off and on due to undiagnosed tiredness but could be from many tablets I take which tiredness is a side effect. I have nipped nerves in the bottom of my back and in my neck effecting both limbs on my right. Hence little typing and little walking, swimming or anything else. Some days I just want to sleep alot.
I too want to lose more weight and I only lose weight on low carb and low calorie. Permanently. So I've had the opportunity to get great weight loss on reduced insulin and low calorie intake from a bariatric procedure 2½yrs ago. I'm looking to lose a few more stones but I'd take any loss. I'm happy in my skin but medically I'm still too heavy. I'm still on alot of medications but luckily being helped more to physically repair my back problems and severe IBS. I'm looking forward to no strong opiods to function every few hours of my day. I'm looking forward to typing again, swimming again but most of all walking unaided. I'm in a positive situation right now. I'm full of hopes. Even to weight loss in my imminent future. ;)
Weight loss is different for everyone. We are all different ages, nationality and stature. Our starting point is sometimes at fair or unfair advantage/disadvantage.
I'm restarting mine at a far better position than I was but many are already hugely better off than my current restart point. This can be used to fuel my ambition. Of which I'm very rarely short of. I been told. I did however feel healthier on basal insulin rather than glimepiride and metformin. Metformin still irritates my IBS but I'm looking forward to support to reduce or aliminate IBS severe symptoms. Full of hopes which I know some will workout and some will not. That's life. Isn't it?

I am Type 2 diabetic since 1995. Since last 10 years I have been taking both medicines as well as insulin, both short-acting (Novorapid) and long-acting (Lantus) to manage the sugar levels. Recently I have been having several episodes of hypos, both during daytime and during night. In order to manage hypos safely, I think it would be better for me to use a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) which can provide suitable warning of approaching hypo situation so that necessary steps can be taken to avoid serious outcomes.
Since NHS does not provide CGM to Type 2 diabetics, I will need to get a suitable meter on my own. As there are several CGMs available in the market it would be nice to get some recommendations both from the point of view of accuracy as well as cost effectiveness of the CGMs in the market.

Is there any app or method available for recording of blood sugar levels as also intake of food and insulin so that a composite picture of blood sugar in one's life can be developed to provide guidance for managing of diabetes by adjusting carb intake and insulin dosage?
