some background--
i used to use novorapid and toujeo insulins
but was so hungry i gained alot of weight
so i requested a different insulin
and was given novolin premixed
i lost the horrible hunger
but it required me to eat when i wasnt hungry
so im back on the novorapid and toujeo

now that im back on them again
my hungers increased and it makes me
irritable
sometimes i give in to the hunger it causes
but im going to end up gaining weight again
in addition to that
i seem very insulin resistent
and the dose is just climbing again
i was using 160 units of toujeo and 120 units of novorapid
a day
i was started on 45 toujeo and 60 novorapid
im already up to 66 and idk even know how much
novo rapid as it varies with how many carbs i eat
but id venture a guess its maybe 90 units
and im not near any kind of goal yet
set by the dr nor was i before on the higher doses

i dont want to get stuck in this circle again
like i was last time
use insulin get hungry eat more gain weight need more insulin
get more hungry gain more weight use more insulin
i dont want stuck in it again

i had heard that low carb helped hunger
im unable to do that to try that
as i can only buy cheap carby foods
due to finances
im unable to get any exercise due to other health issues

i tried several oral meds. before insulin
and experienced many side effects one leading me to an er

what can i do?
is my only option to stop insulin to just have high blood sugar
and hope for no complications?

i can afford eggs
but cheese and canned tuna only when its on sale
and other meats arent an option (intolerances and costs)
so i felt that it would be very limiting
with just eggs and sometimes tuna and cheese
but i like all 3
can i live on this?
(cant afford veggies)

Hi, when you say required you to eat when you were not hungry, why? Did you have to dose with food? could the eat when not hungry choice be nuts or something cheap and non fattening? Sounds to me like having to eat when not hungry is way better than the viscous circle you’ve gone back to. I hope you find some answers.

Are you in the uk? Do you have access to food banks? Not being able to afford a few veggies seems awful, must be a way?

Personally I hate veggies but my wife force feeds me, we could house swop?

Hi,

I appreciate you are on a tight budget with your shopping.

From your earlier post you mention using a Libre? If the sensors are self funded, could it be possible to go back to just finger pricking to help with your finances?

Best wishes.

my sensors and insulin and test strips are all covered
under the provincial drug plan
its a good plan
you can only have the sensors or strips one at a time
you cant get them covered to use together
just a few to test if the sensor says to test with something else
cause its saying you have a weird number or whatever

Sorry you feel so trapped but you are right that more insulin, means more hunger and more weight gain and more insulin resistance. Low carb or keto is the only way back from this vicious circle other than 800kcal diet -also low carb (Newcastle or Blood Sugar diet) or bariatric surgery (not a great solution)>
Please have a read of this re low carb on a budget . Please also think how expensive it would be if your diabetes got worse.
Fasting is also very cheap.

You can get inexpensive hamburger meat. If you shop on Mondays stores also have 1$ and $2 off stickers on packages. Eggs are a good deal.
There are other meats besides canned Tuna. Spam and corned beef are an option.

an example
i have coffee just 1
the last thing i have not given up for diabetes
and it puts me in the 12s fast
if ive been lower
and i put a bit of 10 percent cream and 3 stevia pks
or sucrulose pks in it
so i decided to try 10 units of novorapid
nothing happens
i dont want to give up the last thing i
havnt given up
but may have to
sometimes i think geesh i may as well have a nice
regular hot chocolate with that 10 units
likely wouldnt work though
lol

Did you take 10 units of novorapid for a regular coffee? With no syrup or something in it? I’m far from an expert but that can’t be right? That’s like 2g of carb, if the insulin is not working (and clearly it’s not) and makes you gain weight, how can taking it make sense? I am not really asking you cdpm, I’m asking your doctors that are not reading this :( doesn’t sound like your getting good care at all.

If it was morning coffee, it may well be the biggest part of the rise was from getting out of bed, not the coffee.
Many of us need insulin when we get up, even without breakfast. For some this is only 1 or 2 units, for me it's anywhere between 5 and 16 units (which also covers the splash of milk I have in my coffee).

That’s very interesting, they don’t tell you that. I am way too volatile to inject without food at the moment, feel better being a bit high than crashing, but that’s off topic sorry op :(

edit: sorry, how do you know if it is 5 or 16 if not associating it to food?
