Is this normal? Insulin and metformin

So I am extremely insulin resistant and I am on novarapid and toujeo and since going on Metformin my blood sugars went from 27/H.I to 7-13. I take 1000mg a day. But I still have to take at least 5-7 more units of insulin to take food. My question is, is that is it normal for a type 1 diabetic who has been diabetic for 21 years to be taking 2000mg a day as well as insulin? Cause I really think I will benefit off the maximum dose of Metformin and I won't have to take so much insulin.

Some T1s become insulin resistant and so find metformin useful. Insulin needs vary so much between people that I'm not sure there is such a thing as normal here. But it's definitely a known thing, My GP has offered it to me (not taking it atm) but I believe @Antje77 takes it.

It sounds like it's caused or coincided with a big improvement in bgs for you, so that is excellent news.

I am also on metformin 2000mg a day, I was only put onto Basil /Bolus about a month ago, after the diabetes team finally realised that I was not type two. I am still in the early stages of getting everything dialled in, but currently on 8 units of (Levemir) and (Novorapid) basil carb ratio of 1:15g. Have an appointment to see my diabetes specialist nurse on Friday, so hoping to make further adjustments to get my levels a bit better. Current morning readings 9mmol, the Novorapid brings me down to starting levels, just by the next meal or slightly above, so find that I climb steadily all day as they suggested not giving correction doses until I was above 10. Annoyingly she said not to take insulin with any food after evening meal, so bolus is struggling to bring back levels before breakfast. Hoping for an easy fix, but as I have come to know nothing about diabetes is easy.
Not had any hypos on insulin yet, but lots of Hypers, so now only testing pre-meal or if I don't feel right, to avoid feeling depressed about high numbers 2 hours post meal. I don't think I am insulin resistant, but diabetic team just wanted me to remain on metformin.

Hi, I take met, been taking it for years, my consultant over video appt looked at my notes and said “why are you taking metformin?” So I reply with a *shrug* he returns my shrug and we move on lol who knows I may be benefitting from it. Sure does not seem to be doing any harm.

I have been taking 2000 mg of Metformin for years as well as around 76 units of insulin per day on my pump. Been diabetic for 40+ years.
Unfortunately there is no "normal" as we are all different
