Hi, i'm new here and hoping someone can help me.
My story so far:
4 weeks ago I moved house and registered with a new doctor. Part of the procedure was a full blood test. The results of the fasting blood test were:
Blood Sugar: 7.0
Cholesterol: 4.1
Blood pressure: 150/95
I was given tablets to lower my blood pressure and was told bluntly that I had Type 2 Diabetes. She arranged for me to see a Diabetic nurse for a week later. Obviously I was in a state of shock from this news and had a stressful week waiting for the nurse appointment. When it finally came I was told by the nurse, to my surprise, that i had NOT got Diabetes but there was a good chance i will get it in the future. I was sent on my way with diet, weight-loss and exercise advice and told to come back in 3 months for another blood test.
At this stage i have no idea if i have Diabetes or not. Nonetheless over the last 3 weeks I have dieted (low carb diet as recommended by members on this forum), lost weight (about 9kg) and increased exercise.
Also I invested in a blood testing kit so i could check BG myself.
The results are:
Pre dinner (evening main meal): 5.3 Average, (highest 6.0, lowest 4.8)
Post dinner 2 hrs: 5.5 Average (highest 6.4, lowest 5.0)
My question is; I'm due back to see the doctor next week because she wants me to start on Statins. What test(s) should i demand she does to confirm if i have or have not got Diabetes.
I accept there's a good chance i have but I need more accurate confirmation rather than just one random fasting blood test.
Any advice would be much appreciated by you kind (and knowledgeable people)
