Hi mervyn.
Thanks for your update, its nice to hear how things went and if you're okay .
Do you have to return to your GP soon for the results? [like in a weeks time]
I was told this when I had my scan done, found they really do press down on your tummy over liver/pancreas.[when scanning]
My gel was aloe vera scented , yes it does smell quite sickly sweet dosent it...
Do let us know how things go wont you?
Anna.x :)

Hi Anna,
Thanks. They told me after the ultrasound results in 3 days and make appt. I am supposed to see GP in next week or so for other reasons. I must be getting paranoid as since the telephone call for the scan I have tried to book an an appointment online, and although I can access everything such as ordering prescriptions, since that phone call, when I click on appointments all I get is a message saying there are "no appointments available for you to book" .hmmmm I have used online booking/scripts etc since it started and I have never seen less than a dozen appts available for different Doctors and it always covers a 14 day period. As I say, probably me being paranoid.

If I do not get a phone call by Monday I will telephone for an appt.

I have been having the same problem for the last few weeks trying to book online appointments with gp.

I contacted my practice and they said its just because there is no available appointments however, I know this is incorrect as cancellled an appointment online and it never reappeared as an available appointment. Must be a widespread issue then.

Mervyn, what would happen if you ring and ask the receptionist for the results? Mine will give that kind of information out. If there was a problem they should fit you in anyway. It is worth a try.

Meryn, if it were me I would phone up to-day and book an appointment for Monday. If the results come through and your GP wants to see you this week you can always cancel next weeks appointment but this way you know you will have an appointment booked without any extra delay.

People who think they are always right and ram their opinions down your throat. No-one knows everything. Those who shout loudest are usually the ones who actually know the least.
I think I'd be phoning for an appointment as well Mervyn. As Catza says you can always cancel next week's appointment.

Hi,
Yes I am going to phone for an appt but I know my GP is not in until Friday and all his appts are booked up. Nonetheless on Friday in the morning I am going to ring and ask if they have my results.

I do not expect the reception will tell me the result, but if it is there and the GP needs to see me, they will say. I have to book an appt anyway, as the GP wants to see me, to see how the antibiotics are working and to see if I need the abscess cutting out.

To be honest I am rather hoping that I do not get a phone call...then I will relax a bit, thinking that it is nothing urgent! Although, as my GP is only there 3 days per week that may not be true. Although I can see any doctor in the surgery I know my GP does get the hump if you see someone else when he wishes to follow up.

I will keep you all updated.

Update 2:

Update 2

Hi, I got more and more worried sitting here and not knowing, so I telephoned the surgery. The receptionist, after an obvious consult with her senior, surprisingly gave me the result, whether there was anything else to say on the report, I do not know, but have an appt with my GP Tuesday morning early.

According to the receptionist I have grade 2 fatty liver. That is more than I hoped as the GP I am certain, thought it was something else. As far as I can find out the prognosis is reasonably ok as long as there is no further deterioation.

I hope that my GP is on the ball and I get at least a six monthly blood test.

Any way I am extremely happy. Obviously normal would have been fine but as I have had a mild fatty liver for about 8 - 10 years I am as happy as I could be.

Thanks for all your advice, and especially all of you for your kind thoughts.I will Update Tuesday after seeing my GP

Thanks to everyone. xx

I had a fatty liver on diagnosis (not sure what grade though), but with a bit of low-carbing it wasn't fatty anymore by my 3 month checkup. It's probably something that you can make go away with a bit of determination.

So glad to hear your news mervyn.

Knowing what you are up against is always better than speculation as human nature seems to always assume the worse.

Hi Mervyn

I saw my GP on Tuesday and he is sending me off for a liver scan. I should probably hear from the hospital next week. Thanks for posting your experience. At least i can have an idea what I am expecting - still not looking forward to it though :(

Hi claymic,
It is non invasive the worse thing is waiting to find out the results. At least my receptionist was willing to at least disclose that it was Grade 2 fatty liver. So at least I will have a worry free weekend before I see my GP on Tuesday.

Of course he may wish to refer me to a Liver Specialist and even for a biopsy to see if there is any fibrosis but the outlook is not too bad as long as it does not progress.

I am highly relieved at the moment.

I wish you luck with your scan, and from my own experience it is difficult, but try not worry too much.

good luck and best wishes,

Mervyn

Have you had a google to see what you can do to treat yourself Mervyn? I am sure I have seen weight loss can reverse this problem. I watch far to many dieting programmes!

Hi,
Yes have googled and weight loss can reverse it in some cases.
They say that if you sort the underlying reasons then it can in a lot of cases be reversed. But it has a strong link to Diabetes, especially uncontrolled, and interestingly, not Type 1.
Also medication and as I take 18 tabs a day, that is going to be difficult on both counts. Gives me ammunition though to use when I speak to my DNS next. As my BG is up and down like a yo-yo and my post prandial is always high.

If the underlying causes cannot be sorted then it will progress although it can take some years.

Do you need to lose weight? I am trying my hardest to drop the horrible pounds right now. At least you may well be able to influence your liver, and that is a bonus!

Good luck with your doctors visit on Monday.
