Wish I could help but I'm new to all this, and never had to gain weight in my entire life! I'm sure some wise people on this site will be able to give you good advice.

Good luck

As your hba1c is excellent, I would say try eating 1 extra CP at each meal and cover it with insulin.

Do weight training and try eating protein within 20 minutes after your workout to promote muscle build up. You can try a shake too if you like - protein/creatine stuff if you don't have any complications to consider.

Eat more healthy fat - fatty fish, olive oil, almonds...

I am doing the 2nd bit myself, but as I am trying to lose weight, I do the opposite of advise 1 myself, so I am guessing if you want to put on weight, you'd want to look to carbs. I am losing weight while continuing with the 3rd bit, I always did that. Insulin is fat storing - so take more insulin, eat carbs to cover the extra insulin...

I would rather be any weight with a sensible muscle mass myself than have too much body fat, but if you don't have enough then I would try above. You can work out your fat percentage from one of the applications online - measuring tape, your weight and height will give you a good guess.

Yes as far as I know as long as you avoid spikes, it should be fine - that may mean that you have to try and hit the timing for your bolus - say if you eat faste(r) carbs - white bread, fruit etc, you may want to do your bolus slightly earlier than you would otherwise. If you eat carbs with fat (say a fruity pie with crust and all), you may want to split or delay bolus as the fat will delay stomach emptying. I guess I assume you are familiar with this, or at least familiar enough with your insulin to know how to go about giving it a try.

I am just getting to this part of the fun myself.

What you do want to make sure is that you get the count right, and then watch the timing - and of course do your darnedest to not have a giant spike at 1 or 3 hours pp because of above factors.

I'm not on insulin, so do make sure anything I say doesn't go against your insulin use. However, I wanted to stop my weight falling further on a reduced carb diet, and didn't want to eat anything that would adversely affect my then good BG control. So i started eating lots of nuts as snacks. Low carbs, and low GI, and don't seem to effect my BGs at all. My weight levelled off at a happy level.

ScottishBrian is on insulin. Anyone on insulin can eat more carbs and cover it with insulin to avoid high blood glucose. I've done it myself a thousand times and still kept my hba1c low. This often leads to weight gain which for the majority of people including me is unwanted, but in ScottishBrian's case is what he wants.

That's not great advice - at least not if you subscribe to even a little bit of Bernstein's advice - higher doses of insulin lead to potentially larger swings and worse control. I could also eat 'normally' and cover it with insulin but this is lot harder to do than keep my insulin input really low and have very small fluctuations.

Scottish Brian will have to decide whether it's worth having a few more swings in order to gain weight. If he's been dafne trained he should be able to increase his carbs and insulin injections. I'm not talking about going on mega carb binges here, but just increasing them slightly. A basal bolus regime should be able to cope with that without massive swings.

If you want to gain some weight then you can try some energy capsules..There are no. of different types of energy treatments are available in the market..But before using them firstly concern with some health specialist.Because some of are not good for health and can create a side effects also..

I was in hospital recently with Urosepsis and had no appetite whatsoever... I was eating very little and sometimes went for upto 3 days without eating.
Therefore, worried about losing even more weight, I asked my dietician if I could have the Calogen someone mentioned in an earlir post.
I didnt get this, but she gave me an alternative they had called Pro-Cal. So each 30ml shot I take is an extra 100 calories. (sometimes I take a 60ml shot, giving me 200 calories) and I take 1 shot 3 times per day.. giving me between 300-500 extra calories a day on top of what I'm eating.

Give it a couple of weeks and see if I notice the weight gain! I'll need to join a gym to build muscle so its not all fat :p

Thanks for all the advice!
