Hi
My mum has had Diabetes Type 2 for around 30 years, she is, at the moment, on metformin and other oral medication. However, she has been advised to go on to Victoza. I have been researching this drug online and I am still- after trawling the internet- unsure whether this is a wonder drug or not. I understand it is a relatively new medication and therefore the long term effects are unknown, but the risks of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer does concern me.
Now I believe the only other alternative is Insulin and I did ask the nurse why she should take Victoza and not go straight to insulin, but I never really got to the bottom of the why. Do you think Victoza is a good option? Would going straight to insulin be more problematic?
thanks
