Hi. As I understand it Metformin mainly causes the liver to release less glucose and helps overcome insulin resistance. It also reduces your appetite. It has no direct effect on your pancreas and insulin production. Metformin is well proven and has very few side effects apart from stomach problems that some people have with the non-Slow Release version. Metformin is also supposed to help protect the heart. The drug does not reduce your blood sugar by a large amount so it's not a miracle drug but it does help.

My doctor wants me to take 500 mg metformin hydrochloride tablets twice a day , but from what I have read , it's says it for type 2 ? Just wondering if any other types ones take these and how much they help or
