My name is Shirley, I am 51, (52 in 12 days!!!). I am female from UK. I live in Lancashire between Fleetwood and Lancaster. Truth is the highest religion.
HELPFUL, HAPPY, CONSCIENTIOUS.

I have two dogs, two rabbits, two guinea pigs and 2 ferrets (Should I be called Mrs Noah??). Microsoft. Walking the dogs, shooting. Is shopping a sport? I don’t get angry easily but when I do the whole world knows it.
I have a tat of a violet on my left shoulder blade, and double ear piercings.

Don’t do much music now but I like Simply Red, John Barrowman.
70’s and easy listening (can’t you tell I’m getting old?)
My fav. flag has to be the skull and crossbones. Never camped in a tent but frequently go caravanning. I have been in love and am still in love with my partner. No fake tan. France and Spain. Liverpool.

Hi everyone

My name is Bart, I was diagnosed with Type II early 2011 at age 39 and take 2x 1000mg Metformin daily.

I am originally from Belgium but moved to the UK in 2007 after falling in love - that answers the question further on - with my current wife. We live in Wigan, Lancs, no children but lots of pets; 1 dog, 2 cats, 3 ferrets, fish, 4 chickens and 2 bearded dragons.

My favourite city would be Ghent in Belgium because I used to live there, I know it pretty well, the architecture is ace and the restaurants awesome. Because I'm 40, I love the 80s, favourite bands would be Depeche Mode, Simple Minds, The Cure, etc. Isn't it cool those bands are still going? :clap: We saw Duran Duran last year doing their latest album and that gig was superb! So, I love my music.

I have a job in a call centre doing customer service. I don't really like it there so am job hunting to find a place elsewhere. We have a motorhome, so we go camping (yes!) when our schedule allows it. I really love going to Sherwood Forest, The Lakes and Schotland. I love long walks with the dog, being out in nature, regardless the elements.

What I like least about myself is the fact... I am diabetic! :x Before I was diagnosed, I really loved my chocolate, desserts, munching winegums watching tele etc. I like cooking! (favorite programs would have to be Masterchef The Professionals UK, Masterchef Australia, the British Bake Off, Great British Menu, documentaries on Eden, the BBC dramas. Always had a sweet tooth, I loved smoking, enjoyed the occasional cigar, I went out a lot ... Anyway, all that had to change of course once diagnosed. I guess that was the same for everybody on here.... It was a shock when I found out, even though I always feared it could happen due to the family history. It did explain why I was/am tired a lot, thirsty, etc... My first year was really hard and the GP increased the doses of tablets to 2000 mg which made me feel better. However, I hate the fact I have this disease, so mentally I am angry at this diabetes thing and what it does to me. I'm still coming to terms with that :?

Hi I'm Helen and new here, was diagnosis type 18 months ago, tried metformin bad reaction, tried acarbose bad reaction, so until lastest blood tests was diet controlled have rocketed from 6.9 to nearly10 or 80 as I was told. Have now tried gliclazide and was dizzy to the point of passing out as well as feeling sick, eventually was sick so another bad reaction.

Feeling pretty lost and confused about my diabetes, definitely dont trust what gp has to say, and wondering what to do now???????

Greetings from me in New Zealand. My husband has Type 2 diabetes, diagnosed 1994; he is 68 and is currently not so well; I discovered this site a couple of hours ago in my hunt for information that may help him, and am impressed with the insights,wisdom and experience I see in the posts I've read so far.

Hi, my name is Anne and I joined the Forum a while ago but havnt done many postings, but I do follow threads when I get chance.

I am semi-retired and also run my own Wedding Cake business so sugar and cake to me is a problem but I use my husband as a cake tester. My personal opinion is there is no such thing as a 'diabetic cake' because all cake consists of flour, sugar, eggs, and fat so when I do a wedding consultation I point this out to people and basically its a case of moderation and dont eat the icing.

I am on the borders of Diabetes 2 so try to keep things under control with diet and being aware of Carbs. Believe it or not, bread is my particular enemy more so than any cake, because it bloats me out and makes me lightheaded so I eat very little perhaps only one piece of toast a week as soldiers with my boiled eggs. My favourite breakfasts are either smoked haddock and egg, kippers, or an omelette and that usually gets me going for the day.

I am always on the go, making cakes, gardening - very large garden, we keep chickens for produce our own eggs as I love the taste of a fresh egg, walking the dogs.

I sometimes find it difficult to control my weight so I need to take more control as I dont want to enter old age with excess weight as I was always a skinny person until life dealt me a few trials and tribulations with children and their problems, and the passing of elderly parents which in particular hit me hard. Its even more important to me as I watched my dear old Mum go into a diabetic coma and never regain consciousness and after a month she died; this was 19 years ago. Its even more relevant to me, having watched the consequences of a diabetic coma that it doesnt happen to me. She was never diagnosed as a diabetic prior to becoming ill, so it was a complete shock.

I hope to make a few friends on here who can help me keep my diabetes condition under control and I hope that what happened to my Mum will be a warning to us all.
