Hi fellow diabetics my name is Sue (short for Susan ) but no one calls me that since my mum died .I live in Southern Spain so some of the details eg glucose readings and medication names could be different.
I teach line dancing which is good exercise as I have to learn the dances first which takes up quite a lot of my time and energy.
I love reading especially murder mysteries, if there are bodies in the first few pages then its going to be my sort of book.
I live with my husband of 18 years and we moved to Spain to get away from the cold English weather but go back to the uk quite often to see the family.
I was diagnosed 14 years ago with type 2 and was on avandamet and then actos which were both taken off the market for side effect reasons, avandamet for heart problems and actos for bowel cancer. They have both been banned here in Spain so I tried Metformin and combinations with other drugs but they made me feel so sick all the time that I finally went on to insulin. I use the preloaded pens and life has become so much better and it does not bother me that I have to inject 5 times a day.
So thats my story, if you want any more information or just a chat I will try and answer you and work out what I have to do with the forum.

I have had type 1 diabetes for 40 years I was diagnosed when I was 14
I am on a basal bolus regime and my diabetes is fairly well controlled although I have been having a few hypos lately
I will hopefully join in with discussions when I get the hang of things but for now hi to everyone

Hi all. I have been reading posts on the forum for quite a while now and find it really informative so i thought it would be a good idea to join up I am 56 and type 2 on 2x500 metformin am and the same pm and also 8 units of Lantus each morning. I was diagnosed in Feb 2011. At the moment i am trying to get my cholesterol down from 5.3. Docs wanted me on statins but i am trying lower carbs and more excercise first :? If anyone has other good suggestions to avoid the stains i would be very grateful. I have recently dopped from 9 units to 8 of Lantus (asked diabetic nurse first) as i felt i was eating more to counteract insulin and started putting on weight and so far so good. Not desperately overweight but want to keep well under 10 stone mark!

Hi, I'm named Stuart and just been told I have type 2 last Monday. I live where I work near Southampton and I'm 48 I've just built up to taking 2x500 metformin twice a day today. Feeling a little scared :sick: at the moment and trying to find out on the internet whats going on with my sugar levels. Due back to the doctors in 2 weeks and to see the diabetic nurse a week on Thursday. I guess I'll post some info about what I've experienced over the last week on the forum to see if you guys can help with some info.

hi folks
got diagnosed about 6 years ago and on 2x2x 500mg mataformin all "okish" till last Thursday and tests came back blood sugars 25
I'll admit that lately my control has lapsed since September and there has been a lot of booze partaken was on a weekend away and a few social functions which is not my normal (3 pints and i am anybodies )
so trying to be good trying out this low carb thing its a pain as i love chips and bread "fresh plain loaf" yummy
love gums but took 1 off the kids last night and had to spit it out as it was far to sweet good thing ??
got a test on Wednesday with the dn and dietary nurse so expecting a spanking just hope the bloods are down
and planning on starting daily blood testing
p.s the last month is the best i have felt for the last 3/4 years now back to feeling tired and a little listless
