Hi since may i have been suffering from dry eyes and nasal sores this was how i found out i was diabetic, after having blood tests
apparently it is one of the symptoms that some people get , the dry eyes are being treated with artificial tears in gel form which i put in at night , but does not seem to work i still wake up in the mornings unable to open my eyes its liike my eyeballs are stuck to my eyelids no sticky goo or anything just generally stuck !!. They havent given me anything for my nasal sores which are driving me mad i have not been without a sore in either nostril since may. one goes away in one side and another appears in the other side the only thing that soothes is vasaline but it doesnt heal has anyone any idea what will work ? :(

Hi Gally, I get cold sores in and around my nose and use Fenistil cream, works a treat. I think its behind the counter at the chemists.

I have a recurrent condition called Blepharitis, which is a slight infection of the little sebaceous glands along the eyelids which help to keep your eyes moist. I can tell when it is coming on because I get dry-eye and my (gas-permeable) contact lenses get glued to my eyeballs and take a lot of getting out  . I use Contact Lens Comfort Drops during the day to keep things moist.

One of the symptoms of this is 'sticky goo' around the eyes on waking, so it's unlikely that you have this. But I see no reason why you shouldn't use Comfort Drops during the day to help - I'd discuss this with your pharmacist and tell him/her what you're already using.

Also ask your doctor if ahything else might help - I have moist eye-wipes, and a special liquid for cleaning my eyelids with when I get symptoms. Anything specially designed for use with an eye condition may help. The moist wipes, for instance, might help to loosen things up before you even open your eyes. Keep them where you can manage them by touch alone.

But do ask someone first - they are your eyes, not mine, and I only know what works for me. I'm not qualified.

Failing all else, go and talk to an optician. They have all sorts of (expensive!) products that might help.

I'm afraid I can't help with the nasal sores. Hope things improve soon.

I have recently been diagnosed with recurrant erosion syndrome which has eye symptoms very much like those you describe - I have been advised by Moorefields eye hospital to use lacrilube gel in the eye at night and hypromellose eye drops during the day for a month Both are available over the counter as well as on prescription

You really need specialist advice as eyes are so precious.
It could be a bacterial infection.
If you have a dry mouth as well it could be http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Sjogren's-Syndrome.htm

I would advise that you go back to your G.P. and ask him to refer you.

HI Catherinecherub and thank you for your reply i have been investigated for sjogrens syndrome and it has been ruled out but i do have a lot of symptoms for it dry eyes dry nose and lots of joint pain , this is why i had the blood tests done but the only thing they come back with was high glucose levels hence now the diabetes diagnosis , i had done a lot of research on the internet and i was actually convinced that i had the sjogions !! the sores in my nose are like" fisures" (hope ive spelt that right) like a split that you get on chapped lips that continually opens they take weeks to heal , I will ask my nurse again when i go back in two weeks time

What about Sudocreme? Its used for nappy rash but I have used that for chapped lips, lip sores etc. It combines the lubrication of vaseline with the anti septic nature of the Sudocreme and you don't need to get it from the pharmacy.

this will sound very strange for the nose but it works. use a cotton swab and apply a small amount of "personal lubricant" as it is called in the states. also called K Y Jelly here. it immediately soothes and forms a lasting coating that helps the sore to heal. i get these all the time too but for me they are related to bad hay fever and the sneezing that goes with it.

another advantage of persoanl lubricant is that the chemist probably won't be too "nosey" about why you want it. but you might feel a bit embarassed if you have to ask for it!
