Hi! I have been type 1 for 21 years, diagnosed aged 8. My HBA1C has recently been very good, although I must say I did go through a rebellious stage in my teens, which didn't do me any good at all!! :( So currently my HBA1C is 6.4% after rising from 5.4% during pregnancy.

I have recently started getting tingling in my hands and feet and it's really scaring me, does anyone have any advice on how I can improve this? I live in Cyprus so don't have a DSN on the end of a telephone :( thanks guys x

If its only recently started, lowering your BS helps, though you've not posted what your current daily readings are my HbA1c readings have been rising slowly masking what my peaks were.

If you had the feelings a long time and it is neuropathy the damage can become permanent, they treat mine with a anti depressant which reduces the effects that you feel. Fortunately when my BS was peaking in the 20's the feelings got worse and as I got my BS back under control the neuropathy has returned to its previous state.

It might be worth getting checked out by a doctor anyway - there are other things that could cause this, eg carpal tunnel syndrome - best to get it looked at I would say. If your HbA1c is so good you might cause yourself more stress by trying to reduce your glucose levels further - though it sounds as though you did amazingly well during pregnancy!

Thank you for your replies, my daily levels are good usually between 4-8, I have recently started on new insulins, which seem to be doing me the world of good, I will get this checked out though, when I was int he UK my doctor gave me some tablets that tricked my brain in to not feeling the tingling.

Reassurance is always good and no one understands a diabetics worries like another diabetic :) best get myself booked in for a check :) thanks x

Your daily figures are better than mine, and its not worth trying to lower them as you could end up with other problems. Best see a doctor to get it diagnosed correctly.

Agree with the other posters - it would really surprise me if you have neuropathy with hba1cs and blood glucose results that brilliant.

Re: possible carpal tunnel etc, it might be worth seeing an osteopath or similar - I got tingles and actually went numb in one side of my hand a few years ago, nothing to do with diabetes at all but to do with poor posture and trapping nerves. Once I sorted that out I got all the feeling back and everything's fine. Ordinary doctors are often not as confident about looking for possible problems in the skeletal system as you'd expect, so it may be worth at least asking the question of a specialist and see what they think.

Hello

Some years ago I had the tingling and numbness in my hand, only one hand though. After numerous injections I went into the day hospital and had the nerve cut and thankfully its all sorted. However, has started in the other hand now and I am quietly confident that its the same problem again and I suspect that the end result will be the same. Having said that I've been type 1 diabetic for over 50 years and this is as about as bad as it gets for me, apart from some retinopathy that my local diabetic clinic don't seem to want to know about, so lucky really.

When I read about other people's issues I think I'm really lucky.
