Hi,

I have been considering purchasing this app but it hasn't received great reviews. I've seen people on here talking about it and wondered if it is worth paying the money for.

Can anyone recommend it, or maybe another app. I just want to be able to log my food to see if I am eating as few carbs as I hope I am, but also to see how many calories and if there is anyway I need to tweak my diet.

Thanks.

I use it and swear by it. It's simple and intuitive. There is a free version you can download that would give you an idea of layout etc before you shell out for the real thing

Lenny,

The Carbs and Cals App is very good, but someone on here recently recommended myfitnesspal (which is free). I find myfitnesspal to be more helpful, as its database contains so many more food items. The only down side is that Carbs and Cals have pictures to show portion sizes, which is easier if you don't want to weigh everything, but myfitnesspal works on weights.

You can download Carbs and Cals free, to give it a go and see what you think. Hope this helps.

I'd recommend myfitnesspal or myfatsecret, both free.

I use myfitnesspal in conjunction with carbs and cals! I like carbs and cals pictures, but for branded items myfitnesspal pal is better and has the barcode scanner

Although myfitnesspal is free, it doesn't give you pictures of meals which I find more helpful and also gives you more accurate calculation with carbs, I have the carbs and cals app and book, wouldn't be without them!

I have found the carbs&cals App to be the easiest possible way to immediately be able to SEE exactly what amount of carbs and cals and fat etc. any pictured food has in what portion size(s) pictured - so immediate and so easy ! No calculating or weighing ! I also bought the latest book which shows the carbs & cals values for 1,000s of UK based foods in various portion sizes again via high quality photographs - just sooooo immediately visually easy and oh what a shock whilst flicking through at so many "surprises" at just how many calories or carbs certain foods actually have and how "easily" they can add up over a day's total eating ! I totally recommend !

Hi Lenny

I am also curious, having been recommended it by a Diabetic Specialist Nurse. The reason I hesitate is that I have been told calorie counting can lead to obsession with body image. For this reason I wonder if there is an application, which helps estimate carbohydrate content, omitting the calories, since I am at the low end of a healthy weight (BMI about 19-20).

My reason for wanting to know about carbohydrates is so that I can begin using bolus insulin (I'm a type 1 diabetic); but if a measuring tool for glycaemic index is just as good, I would prefer to use that, to avoid turning into a calculator.

I really appreciate your question and am simply looking for the most appropriate method for my own control of diabetes.

Thank you all,
Katrina

I got the app free when I sent pack tops from contour testing strips to Bayer. I also sent more tops and got the book. Both are really good

I got the carbs and cals book too, but to be honest the GI and GL Counter book from Hamlyn has far more foods listed and gives cals, carbs, protein and fats info for all of them, plus its only £3.99 instead of £12:99
