What's the lowest you've been?

My lowest was ERROR

According to the ambulance man it took nearly 40 minutes to get me up to 1.4.

The full back board and complete numbness was a worry, apparently i had ridden my bike into a parked car. The worry being that I had ridden nearly 2 miles (the wrong way) and had no knowledge of it!

At least you have an excuse for your cycling misadventures Mr Happy... Pre-diabetes I rode my bike into the back of a parked car in broad daylight! Like, duh!

Ive never had 'error' on my meter, except for when I'm too keen and give it a sample of my blood before its ready. I was going to say 'impressive' as you probably have the lowest possible blood sugar recording in this topic thread but clearly having blood sugar that low isn't impressive at all, and I should be giving you the stern ticking off I seem to get every time I see my diabetes specialist nurse.

When you know you are really low do you ever put off getting food? I have done that a few times but managed to finally convince myself to eat something. If i get a reading below 3 (which is very rare) i get the strangest thoughts, scary stuff.

I've been at lows of 0.3 and 0.4 before, and I've not been able to remember who I am or what I'm doing. I remember once waking up with my mum at my side trying to feed me dextrose tablets and me not being able to chew them, so she got some lemon curd and jam and spooned it into my mouth. It was a horrible experience :/
But I do sometimes wonder whether it is better to be slightly too low than too high...

0.3 is very low laurabeth! Running low blood sugars long term may be better for your kidneys, liver etc but you may lose the warning signs that you get when a hypo is on the way! It happened to me a few years ago and I was advised to keep my average blood sugar a little higher for a few months an thankfully the warning signs returned. If you drive then its really important you test before you get behind the wheel especially if you don't know when your sugar level is below 4.

Between 5.5 and 4 I definitely feel low, hungry, dizzy, cranky, nauseous. But like some people have said once I get really low (I don't know what it was because I tested 3.1 AFTER bread and juice) the last thing I wanted to do was eat. I guess it might have been from constant vomiting and feeling generally disoriented.

I suppose once you go below a certain level you're so messed up the usual instinctual eat-to-fix-it response or your awareness goes out the window. I understand now why it's best to act sooner rather than later. I'm not even on insulin or tablets, god knows how scary it must be to have taken too much insulin and struggling to get your numbers back up @_@ Bottom line, don't let it ever get super low...

Hi there all,

My lowest result would have been 1.2 with no symptoms at all!! I was talking and holding a normal conversation. Really scary.

I don't have any warnings at all now and am on the waiting list for a beta cell transplant. Can't wait for it to be done as not having any warnings at all is a nightmare. CGM helps but need the transplant.

Well... Today I was 2.5 pre gym so had a double decker and a banana, an hour later after a stint on the rowing machine I was 1.8. I went for a baby ruth bar and tried not to throw it back up during 2 miles of swimming. Up to a lovely 2.5 so onto my protein shake and bananas, ready for a nice shot and some dinner...

Hi all,

Mr Happy, exercising after a low probably was not the best idea... you should have given yourself the chance to recover... when I was out today and had a low I was annoyed because I had to deal with a few messages down the town but I realised I wasn't just going to go up in a flash, so I stopped in a cafe and had myself a nice cup of coffee, sitting down until I reached 5.7.

There are certain levels you have to be at before you even think of exercising. Personally, before a walk down the town, I like to be around 9-10 mmol/L.

You do better than I do, going to the gym as opposed to a casual walk :p

Noticing a lot of lows in the zeros on this thread, people...  Talk about mind-numbing lowness...

And Graham, yes, I've noticed a slight diminishing of the warning symptoms before... once I was around 2 and didn't really notice anything much different... Not the most reassuring of experiences. That's why sometimes you've got to be as vigilant as you can.

Best wishes,

Izzy.

I've always been able to handle my booze despite sinking infrequently

2 cans of cider. Is this what it's like to feel drunk? (I've never been drunk) No. My meter just said 'Lo'

I wondered what all the fuss was about with BG and alcohol as my T1 partner drinks just about what he likes when he likes and I'm not even diagnosed but goes to show if you are going to drink KEEP AN EYE ON THINGS and et sensibly.

Just had my lowest of 2.9, though I am type 2 on tablets. Just a normal day eat the same as usual and for some reason took a dip, had the shakes, sweats etc, 1/2 later back up to 7.5 think I over compensated with the sweets and snack ended up over 12.0 2 hours later.

The lowest I can remember is 2.1, but I tend to run high rather than low. To the person that dipped to 0.4...how, just how?

Diabetes!
My lowest was 1.2 and I had to have help.

Recently my meter was playing up and was giving me really low readings of 0.8. I telephoned the careline and had a really hard time trying to get it through to them that the meter was faulty and my level could not possibly be that low. She kept asking me how did I feel at the time? How long before I retested etc etc, I must have explained at least 3 times that if my level was 0.8 I would be on the floor and in no state to do a test!! She eventually gave up with the questions and got me to return my meter which was replaced
