Things are so much better .. It has been a long struggle But it is Not about What I take .. It is how to control diabetes and the meaning of how it all works .. XxX ..

curry or anything spicy, snakes and mosquitos!
Have re-started the Victoza - this time with a longer time on the lower dose and tablets to help keep my stomach under control! This went well until I upped the dose. Not so good - so I am now taking half the dose twice a day which seems to be OK! Not sure if this is OK? The GP I saw said it was fine, but she wasn't the doc who prescribed! Sugar levels seem to be lowering too - not sure about the weight loss yet!

Hi all, I'm new to forum and havens red a bout Victoza elsewhere before finding this thread.
Am type 2 for past 8 years have been on metformin sr , metformin and back to sr with sitagliptin since x,as. New gp,who referred me to hospital where I was started on Victoza about 8 days ago.
Nausea is a bit of a problem, constipation is worse!
On the plus side I have lost 1.5kg in the week but maybe when the nausea settles..........!
Delighted to have found the forum and such a vast source of information at my fingertips.

Hi Smudge,

Keep with it and you will loose weight for around the first 6 months possible due to lack of appetite feeling nauseous etc but after that its up to you to change your habits. There are also a lot of other benefits, my ALT levels went down a lot these are not fully understood but I am sure it helps a lot of things. Glucose also went down and is now in the good control range

Hi all. Still on Victoza ,about one month now, sugars have come right down am and pm reading 5.4-5.9 so absolutely delighted. Appetite very poor and really have to force myself to eat, but a bonus is my desire for sugary foods has almost gone. Have lost about 4kg so far, long way to go but it's a start.now this week developed a stinking head cold which is lingering, not sure if its due to Victoza or greatly decreased appetite. Never in my wildest dams did I think a yogurt would fill me at lunch time. Poor hubby has had to do more cooking than usual as if I cook dinner I can't eat it!

Go with the flow smudge and loose weight all you can, I lost for around 6 months and then no more lose. I think the first 6 months are the best chance to loose weight so go for it.

Hi everyone... I've been on Victoza for 5 months now... At first it lowered my appetite, I'd say the first month or two... Stayed on a 1200 calorie a day diet....my only side affects were nausea and headaches.... I still have the headaches but as soon as I have something to eat in the mornings it goes away....I've just added grapefruit to my diet... And last month I lost 10 pounds.... The first month I lost 11... The months in between were 6 .. 4.... 1... But then the grapefruit and wham and amazing 10 pounds... Grapefruit is very helpful, I would say .. And a lot of health benefits.... Just don't take it within 6 hours of other medications..... Well thought this might help... Just giving a little information out there.... I will let you guys know if the grapefruit continue to help.

Hi. I am starting on victoza tomorrow. My GP says take it in the morning but the leaflet says any time. Does anybody know if it matters when you take it? Is there a time of day which is better? Thanks!!

I used Victoza for 18 months after the side effects of Byetta became too extreme. Initially it worked well, but from Christmas 2012 until March 2013 I suffered crippling stomach cramps and uncontrollable diarrhoea - I have had to come off it and go onto Insulin.
With Byetta the nausea became so bad I wasnt able to eat, so the side effects can be extreme and dont always show until you have been on it for a while.

Hi There,
After having type 2 for the last 3 years, I wasn't loosing any weight, so the specialists decided to try me on Victoza as my glucose levels were getting above the 20 mark on the monitor. I started taking the medication on the 7 June at 60 mg for the first week and my levels dropped quite sharply to about, between 8.4 and 15.3....with an average of about 11.1 . On the increase to 1.2mg, these readings remained roughly the same. I am now on week 5 and get readings of between roughly 10 & 15. I'm sure these readings should be better than this, so, do you think I should seek advice from the clinic, or wait a bit longer?

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanking you in anticipation,

John.

Hi John,

I would wait a bit longer, you dont mention any side effects normally you would expect to have a reduced appetite and feeling a bit nauseous at this stage and the reduced food intake would reduce your levels and hopefully a bit of weight loss.

Hi edshazell,
Thanks for the reply,

I did feel a bit nauseous at first and I do tend to feel full after eating, but I would have thought the results on my readings would have been getting lower, but like you say, I'll have to wait and see.

Thank's for the advice.

Cheers,

John.

I am a bit concerned that I am on Victoza as my only diabetic medication. I have just read that it is not licensed for use on it's own. Is this true or is it ok?

I was on metformin but it gave me terrible stomach problems and I came off after just over a year. My DN put me on a basal insulin but I was then referred to the hospital who stopped my insulin and put me on Victoza. I am also a bit concerned about the links with cancer which I keep reading about.
