Diabetic eczema

I have this on both my legs. Unknown to me I have had it for a long time before it was diagnosed. However since I have been prescribed with Metformin I have suffered a constant sting in both legs which I can ignore during the day but it is keeping me awake until about 4 or 5 each morning. Can anyone help suggest anything?

Hi, not type 2, but when my sugars used to be high I used to get a very singy itchy sensation in both my lower legs. Since my sugars have ben under control this has completely stopped.

Just another thought, my mum used to suffer with psoriasis (another auto immune condition) which did look like severe ecsma. worth seeing gp about either way and getting referred to a skin specialist.

I suffer from psoriasis, I didn't realise it was autoimmune also!

I didn't either till my diagnosis and started researching immune conditions. Thats the only link I have to me getting type 1 is my mum having that. No other immune disorders in family at all.

We have psoriasis and an under active thyroid from my mum and a cousin with T1 since she was 11. So I guess i should have seen it coming!

I also suffer with eczema and t2 and since being diagnosed and am taking metformin it is getting slightly better now not as red and angry as it used to be so I wonder whether sugar plays a part in keeping it so itchy and angry

Thanks to those who have responded to my question but none of you have come up with any suggestions yet. My doctor thinks that the stinging is related to water retention but I believe he is just guessing! The trouble with local GPs is that they try to treat the symptoms without trying to find out the true cause. Is anyone out there having the same problems?

I have this too, my doctor gave me E45 cream for it, it works

If it is red and hot, it may be infected, but had you thought of trying an antihistemene (sorry I know that is wrong!)as that may take the sting out a bit, plus apply something cooling like maybe E45. Sugar does make it worse I am sure as it attracts bacteria that love to feed on it (that's why thrush is so common).

Thanks to everyone of you, you are very kind. The doctor is saying the stinging is due to fluid retention so I have been given a water tablet to try, it hasn't worked yet. Yes I find that the E45 cream calms the itching. I have also been given BETNOVATE CREAM to try and improve the condition of my lower legs. Thanks once again for your help x
