Here is this sites explanation.

If that's not too clear then the body can provide sugar in order to stop you running out if you don't eat for long periods. If you have insulin resistance you can get raised blood sugar levels as a result. The fasting test at your doctor's is checking for this very thing.

I am not sure what effect it will have on your Hba1c since your Hba1c is affected by all manner of things including the bits of the day that you do eat.

Cheers Squire, I'm afraid I must have been reading a thread this morning and mistaken what it was saying. I thought it was connected to cholesterol and that was where my interest lay. Thanks for that address- I've looked at it and see that its about Dawn phenomen so i'd completely lost the plot hadn't I. So glad you've cleared that for me Take care Squire

An increase in blood sugar is an increase in blood sugar, whether it comes from eating a cupcake or your liver, though liver dumps are not usually that high, going without eating for a significant length of time may cause blood sugar to go over 200. How long either one will last is anyone's guess. Better yet is to avoid either. The diet can be probably be more easily managed than the liver dumps.

Metformin can help limit or decrease liver dumps, but it doesn't work consistently for all in this way. Make sure you keep track of what you eat. I usually get my food info here http://loweringcholesterolguide.com/cat ... eal-plans/
