Why am I not surprised?

I was due to have an appointment next Friday (31st) with a Diabetes Specialist Nurse to be put onto Bydureon.

I have just been informed that my appointment has been cancelled as she will be off 'sick' next week.
'Fair enough' you may think........BUT...........I work in the NHS in the SAME place as the Diabetes department & know full
well this person was thinking about going away over the half term.

I have ALWAYS sympathised with people who are fed up with the NHS (righly so in most cases) & wanted to let you all know that just because I work in the NHS, doesn't mean I get treated with any more respect/care then everyone else (even though some think I would probably get 'special' treatment by being an 'insider').

There, rant over!

Hi there, I'm not surprised by that. When I get cancelled appointments through the post, which say, 'due to unforeseen circumstances your appointment is cancelled' blah, blah what annoys me is that the appointment is weeks or even months away.

Unless we are at deaths door, then I suppose they would fit us in then.

It's good to have a little rant now and then. I hope you get your appointment rescheduled very soon.

All the best RRB

I waited over six weeks for an appointment with a nurse to start Bydureon. When I went, she read from the leaflet (enclosed in the box) and followed the instructions. She did not 'teach' me or even let me do any of the steps apart from the final injection - which, if you have been on Byetta, is exactly the same technique stab, press, wait, withdraw and bin. I thought the needle would be longer - it isn't. Also if you really need help, practice nurses are very capable. So why do we have to wait for an inexpert expert? :?:

Well -

I had my appointment yesterday.
Was NOT given Bydureon - they ran through a form with some questions & said they'd contact my GP who would then prescribe it.
THEN, I'd have to see them again to be shown what to do.

I sat there thinking "This was a total waste of my time - the GP could have asked these questions & prescribed Bydureon on the same day after thoroughly going over what I need to do/giving me an instruction leaflet"

Apparently, I'm an idiot & can't be trusted - grrrrrr! :x

Such a waste of everyone's time.
I hope you get your Bydureon and your intensive training course (ha ha) very soon.
I started mine this week and I'm thinking they should also do some education about expecting higher blood glucose readings in the early days as I was horrified by my 12.7 early morning and worse still at 23.7 two hours after breakfast! I see that others have had this too so I'm hoping it will settle by week 3. In the meantime I'm looking forward to shedding loads of weight!

I'm starting on Bydureon this week I'm hoping that it will suit me. I have been taking Byetta for three months, I was okay on it with no real side effects (no weight loss either though), but I had a very bad experience last week with it and ended up in hospital with suspected Pancreatitis, thankfully it wasn't Pancreatitis but it was Biliary colic bought on by Byetta.
My GP is great actually and when I hear stores like your I'm so grateful that for them. I was given a choice try Bydureon or go straight onto insulin, the GP prescribed the Bydureon, sent the prescription straight to the chemist for me to collect and arranged an appointment with the nurse in three days time. How's that for service? As I say I'm very grateful.
