Hi there
My 15 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with type 1....5-6 weeks after glandular fever was first suspected....Long story!!

I'm not going to answer many of the questions....maybe if my daughter joins, she will!
We live in London, have a menagerie of rabbits, hamsters and guinea pigs & we're a Mac family, all 4 of us having our own iMac or MacBooks and there's a couple of iPads in the house not to mention various generations of iPods! No iPhones though

So glad to have found this forum and I'm hoping I'll find lots of useful info to help my daughter keep herself well...she's also autistic and mildly learning disabled so she's an extra special girl :D

Hey Stephsmum, I live in south London, LOVE animals (worked on a farm) and typing this on my iPad. I also have a type of dyslexia/perception disorder and Aspergers Syndrome so on the Autistic spectrum and applying for support at uni- it's much more difficult than applying through schools!

If she would like a friend, I am 20 but look about 12 XD. Best of luck to the two of you x

Hi everyone

I have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes , I'm 36 and just a few pounds over weight. And pretty fit. And I'm in shock really can not really understand how it's happened, also I'm trying to understand what diabetes is. What readings are bad and what readi gs are good using the strips. The doctor did the 3 month blood test and it averaged at 8.4! Is that reading classed as really bad? I suppose I didn't really understSnd when he was explaining and will have to go back. Also I'm on oral metfirmin 500mg. I'm going crazy trying to understand what's happening to me. Anyone offer any advice?

Ian you should find that Daisy comes along and gives you the intro post telling you loads of things that will help you but apart from that relax and learn - we have all been there and acceptance is easier than denial.

Welcome

Hi Ian - write your own thread and I will post the info for you - here is not really the right place for it. You will get a lot of helpful answers then from other members.

Hello everybody,

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last week, and it seems that my condition became suddenly quite severe, I must eat something every 2 hours even if it is just an apple or a banana, glass of Lucozade.

I will see my GP tomorrow morning to prescribe first time some drugs / medication to make my condition bearable. (I hope).

The nights are worst, as I wake up frequently with heavy breathing sweating and being unwell.

Still, I put my hopes on the medication I will receive tomorrow.

I am a 70 year old male, not (in my opinion) overweight, 75 Kg and still losing weight, I have started the prescribed diet the nurse recommended and sticking to it.

What surprised me most was not the diagnosis of the diabetes, but how suddenly I have gone downhill, meaning that I had no overly noticeable symptoms until quite recently.

I also have a heart problem, -recently diagnosed- which could be related to the diabetes going undiagnosed for some time.

I don't know what medications I will get, but hope to get better as this unwell condition is making me desperate.

Edit: Taken my first Metformin tablet this morning after leaving the surgery, so far so good.
Marked improvement already.

Hello, I'm Clare and I've just been told I've got type 2. No symptoms at all, it was discovered after I referred myself to a bariatric clinic. Random bloods were taken that show something's wonky with my liver (I understand this to be fatty deposits that will go away when any other fats do too) a hba1c of 57 and low vitamin D.

Now I'm on metformin 3 times a day and take some high dose vit d twice a week. My BP is also high, controlled with medication.

I just can't believe I've got this!

So I've cut my carbs down significantly. I could get bored with that.

As yet, no appointment with a diabetic specialist but I expect that to come through in the next couple of weeks. It's all quite shocking, but I'm finding some great information here. Looking forward to spending more time learning more.

Hi everyone ..
New to this only downloaded the app at the weekend.
This site seems fab just what I need and wish I had found it long before now.
My name is Sharon..
Type 2 about a year now.
Tried diet control first but now on Metformin.
Think I best be truthful, even though I cut down a lot didnt realy go with it 100% and thought I would get away with it!
Nope... My nurse now wants to put me on gliclazide? This means testing before
driving ect. Sadly it's taken this for it to hit home..
So for 8 weeks now I've got my act together lost one and a half stone..
I've asked for a further 6 weeks to show I can do it and hope it shows in my BM
So guys just need help please-wanting tips on diet...
I'm sticking to meat and salad..
Just confused about grapes and other fruits? And do I need some carbs?
and can you think of things to snack on? sometimes its a long time between meals with my shifts!
Many thanks..
Sorry if its a bit long ..
