UNDISCLOSED DIABETES T2 & A DRIVING JOB

Hi all,

I have been offered the opportunity to work for a company which specialises in the gift industry. Although I will be self-employed, the job involves visiting work places showing gifts and leaving them there, coming back to fulfil orders. I have never disclosed my diabetes, and don't want to. I will need separate insurance for this job as I will need to get a small type of van.

Is there anyone on here in a similar position or has been, I really don't know what to do for the best. My husband say don't worry about it and don't disclose it. I have been driving for over 22 years and no accident (fingers crossed). But given that I will be out driving all day 5 days a week - I am worried that should it come out if something happens well then?

Thanks for any advice

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I think you only have to disclose T2 if you use insulin

gingercat...Please do tell your insurance company, if no-one else. If you have an accident, for whatever reason, and they discover your diabetes, they will almost certainly refuse any claim on the grounds that you did not disclose material facts. It should not affect your premium (if it does then you can complain it is discriminatory), but not disclosing it means that you effectively would be driving whilst uninsured which could result in forfeiture of your vehicle. It really isn't worth the risk IMHO. You dont have to tell DVLA if you are only on metformin.

T2 diabetes has to be notified to your insurers to avoid complications later if you have an accident and you failed to notify them... they can and will revoke your insurance immediately...

For the DVLA:

https://www.gov.uk/driving-if-disabled

https://www.gov.uk/diabetes-driving

although it's a bit confusing whether some medications need to be notified or not. Insulin treatment however does.

I am 70 years old and hold a Class 1 HGV licence. To hold the licence I have to have a medical every year. I disclosed my type 2 as obviously it is mentioned in my medical along with the medication I take, Metformin, It does not affect my licence at all and hold a letter from the DVLA to that effect. I have been diagnosed a type 2 for 13years and have had the medical each year. It is a condition of the HGV that you have the yearly medical to continue with the licence over a certain age.

I contacted my insurance company yesterday to let them know I had been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes diet controlled, but they said that they only needed to know if DVLA had declared me unfit to drive. I don't know if this is typical of insurance companies though.

This has worried me a bit but reading this forum reassures me a lot.

Hi mark
When I got diagnosed type 2 I rang DVLA and told them
They said I had nothing to worry about unless I had two or more hypos where you can't control
