Ok some of the members may not be happy with this and if this offends you I apologise.

Have people not yet understood about all these diets suggestions may be ok for 1 but can be lethal to others. I have not been here for a long time because of the ambiguity I have found here. Just got regular email update implying some one reversed their type 2 with what is called the Newcastle diet. Number 1 800 calories even for a diabetic is a pathetic amount and on average just to function the body requires at least 1500 to 2000 calories, it may seem a great way to diet but diabetes.co.uk I put it to you that if someone gets seriously ill or a death results from these types of suggestions you will be liable for that. I am not a person who rejects certain suggestions but I do it with the knowledge of what my body requires to get through a day. 2 how many members here are so confused with one or another saying this works for me, we are all individuals and all our bodies require different things. I have given up here with some of the pathetic information with out taking regard that we are individuals and that here one day someone will die because of this misinformation, there is a mish mash of things here and to be honest this is gambling with peoples lives. I did not join here to see hundreds of suggestion about what I should or should not do, I simple wanted to socialise with people who have diabetes like myself, but it has become apparent to me that the idea has been lost. If people want to get sound advice there is an orginisation called DAFNE and I feel that as a responsible website you have the moral obligation to point people the right direction.

Please I have been a member here for nearly 10 months don't insult me, this is a genuine concern not the sort of thing a troll would do. I do not mind others opinions but sorry this shows the kind of mentality this site could do without.

DAFNE is only applicable to T1.There is a sticky about it.

As for the Newcastle diet, I think people have been talking about it and some attempting it since the first reports of the trial a couple of years ago. There are many links on here to the Professor Taylors site with full information including caveats.

You might also notice the discussion and scepticism in the most recent thread.

Its not old dogma and its not a case of difference of opinion, yes I am a member of DUK at least they do not allow some of the dangerous advice I have found here. This is no different opinion it is a polite warning as I can see the some advice may cause others to make themselves very ill. To be blase is to be very dangerous. And yes I am deleting my account aftter I have filed some of the dangerous thing that have been allowed here. I will be passing this information on to the correct authority and leave it to them. Oh btw if you think this is just random opinion I have studied medicine for 5 years and believe that this is a sound conclusion. If some just read into what I said in my first post and decided to ask why, I would be delighted to discuss my reasoning with them, but really insult and then being told where to go is very narrow minded.

It was the 'so called' dangerous advice on here posted by others that have transformed my life and diabetic control and lipid panel whereas the advice on DUK that I followed originally was a diet of doom for me and many others and opinion is changing..The Newcastle Diet, not something I'd do BTW is recommended by Professor Roy taylor and not something that was 'just' invented on here! I wouldn't do it but this is a discussion forum and ideas and research are shared,no one HAS to read or follow what another individual has reported anecdotally or do you not believe in free speech?

Hi. I've been viewing and contributing to this forum for a few years now and with a few exceptions I've seen very little conflicting advice with regard to diet. Your comments about minimum daily calorie intake are based on what evidence? There are many around the world who survive quite well on a low calorie level and have no choice. In the West obesity has become a dangerous and common problem so I would be careful about recommending calorie levels that contribute to obesity. Diabetes can be defined as the inability to handle carbs properly and for T2s in particular they need to reduce carbs to a level which controls blood sugar within NICE guidelines or do you have an argument with NICE? Are you suggesting that many T2s should go onto insulin rather than low-carb? I had to go onto insulin recently despite low-carbing but others can and do cope without it BUT do control their carbs.

BTW your HBa1C is dangerously high at 12.1%. If you have never been a T2 and are a Late onset T1 then you will have no idea of the problems many T2s have keeping sugars down without insulin.

Hi carb Foods
Cobra,
I'm sorry if your opinions have caused a bit of feather ruffling, and I agree that various diets could cause problems and to that end I (and I hope that others too) should not blindly jump into a diet without further research. To this end I always research, fully, any diet (and other) advice I am given. This includes the dross given by DUK an that given by some medics with more than 5 years medical training (and apparently little diabetic training!)

Ok,could I kindly ask if that's the case then how as an insulin dependant T1 myself has my HbA1c fell from 14.1% to 5.1% without loads of hypo's using a low carb diet and minimal insulin whilst yours is over 12% if you and DUK are 100% correct? over to you

This is the second attack of petulance I've had in as many days. Yesterday Mr. Mender phoned and told me off for buying cheap imported garden equipment (petrol strimmer from Argos). He said he wouldn't mend it and charged me £10 for his opinion.

Now I'm going to be reported to the "authorities".

OK I'm scared.
