Hi Everyone.
I have mentioned my eye problems before but i have another problem with my left eye. I have retinopathy, which i can't have any more Laser on, i also have Macular edema and now have an Ischemic problem with the eye. this is all in the left eye. I also have Glucoma. I saw my diabetic doctor asked was i having in any injections in the eye, i gathered this is to stop any new blood vessels forming has any one heard of this. I did have a bleed in the Vitreous jelly but that has subsided. I am registered Partially sighted.
Many thanks

Hi Tracey I am so sorry to hear of your eye problems and I do sympathise with you. I don't know anything about, well, injections because I'm very squeamish about things with the eye. I hope you are managing to cope through this worrying time :(

Take care and best wishes RRB

Hi Tracey. I am so sorry you're having such a hard time with your eyes. I have only heard a little about Avastin but it sounds promising. I hope it works for you. My thoughts are with you

Hello Tracey.
Heck, what a lot you have to contend with.

I thought I was bad enough waiting for a small op to be performed on my eye due to a cataract in my left eye. But that's insignificant compared to your problems.

I can't imagine how you must be feeling, so I would like to wish you all the best and hope all goes well for you.

I too, will be thinking of you.

All the very best of good wishes.

willie.

Hi everyone that replied
I couldn't think of the name of the drug they could use. I am seeing the specialist in August but may give them a ring sooner, as they told me there was nothing they could no at present, it was only due to my diabetic doctor. I also have cataracts on both eyes as well.
We all go through our own problems, but on here we are lucky to have support of others who go through simular problems. Thanks Guys
Take care and speak soon.
Tracey

Hi Keith
I was offered the vitarectomy op but i was lucky the bleed has subsided. The op itself can apparently take up to 2 horus.
This happened to me last year. they said it's quite a successful op, they remove the jelly and put a clear fluid in place if i remember rightly, but google it just to confirm i'm right.
I wish you good luck, keep us updated as soon as you feel fit to. I am interested in how you do.
Take care

hi Tracey and keith. Don't worry about he avastin injecions Tracey. Nothing to them. they use a very small needle and as your eye will already have been anaethesised with drps you won't feel a thing. its also a clear fluid so won't have any after efects.
it doesn;t work fo r everyone so hope you are one of the lucky ones.
i had several steroid injections which did work but caused glaucoma so I won;t be having any more..

all of these treatmenys and surgery cause cataracts o grow and o grow more quickly so hey are not really a seperate issue.
I have had caaracts removed from boh eyes -one purely to make it easier for them to examine the retina.
Again these are usually very simple and successful procedures so don;t worry too much.
I know how worrying it all is but at leas hey have these treatmets. the alernative us far worse,
ood luck to you both. Hope all goes well.

Hi Keith and Tracy

I am sorry to hear the problems associated with your eyes. I know how stressfull this is.

Could I ask you a few questions? I have been a T1 for 12 years now and have background retinopathy in both eyes and then recently was diagnosed with M1 maculopathy in my right eye. Does the maculapathy deteriorate your eye sight very quick? Do you have any advice for me? I am desperately trying to get my blood levels under control. Would this condition stabilise and not deteriorate more if I do?

My last scan saying I had M1 maculopathy was just a letter sent to me without any details or further follow up treatment. I then contacted my diabetes team only to be told that my GP would need to deal with this. I then contacted my GP only to be told that she is on maternity. Nobody has since even bothered contacting me. a letter was sent to the surgery from the eye clinic but that too seems to have been ignored.

Any advice and information would be appreciated.

Just as a matter of interest, when were you diagnosed with maculopathy? Is your HBA1C below 8?

Many thanks

Hi, off-subject. Have you heard of this condition?

Hypomania from within the main article: Bipolar disorder''.Hypomania (literally, "below mania") is a Mood (psychology) state characterized by persistent and pervasive elevated (euphoric) or irritable mood, as well as thoughts and behaviors that are consistent with such a mood state

My advice would be to contact the administrator who has sent you the letter. Under screening guidelines, patients with M1 maculopathy should be reviewed by an ophthalmologist within (I think) 14 weeks. It is important that you are reviewed but not an emergency. The fact that your GP is unavailable should not make any difference to this onward referral - it should be done by the Diabetic Screening Service. Hopefully if you phone them, they should be able to give you some more info.

Best of luck. And keep it up with the BS control - the best way to avoid long term probs.

I've been going to the eye clinic for 4 1/2 years after a mobile scanning unit found background in my eye and I've never managed to get below 8 :( my lowest 1c is 9.6 I am now trying to reduce it but slowly as too fast can add to my issues so it is very slow and if you keep control now you may never end up like me .
