Blood sugars out of control

Hi I'm new to the forum so bear with me.
I've been type 1 for 20yrs plus and over the last month my readings are in the teens then 4 and below. Went to gp for advice and all she could do was refer me to hospital. My eating habits and amount of insulin have not changed, the only thing that has is work saying I do a **** job informally, could this stresses be the cause? What should I do?

Stress will cause your sugar levels to rise and drop as they have been. I have bought a book off amazon called carbs and cals which would help, but from what you have said about the past with your diabetes i would say it's stress related.

Please ask your diabetes team to get you on a dafne course. You will learn much more about carbs and insulin and lots of other things about why things happen.

Stress can play havoc with diabetes control, by getting referred to the hospital diabetes clinic they should be able to advise you on how best to adjust your insulin to compensate when stressed. Hope matters improve at work for you soon and a good suggestion about the DAFNE course by nigelho :thumbup:

Referral to the hospital is best. I can't pass judgement on DAFNE as I haven't done it yet, but I'm excited to do it as I've heard great things! Most say stress raises their BG, personally it lowers my BG. if you say control was good before then I would think stress could possibly be a factor

Also been a Type-1 for 20+years and long-term-diabetic symptoms were also totally absent. However, about 5 years ago, things started to defy reason (much as you're describing).

I now know I'd been running my levels far too low - not helped by the move from Protaphane to Levemir (which gave me morning headaches) - and was getting hypoglycaemic 'rebound'. (The liver pumps glucose into the body and doesn't listen to the Novorapid until very high doses are cumulatively taken, at which point the insulin overpowers the body and the blood sugar comes crashing down..)

But yes, get yourself checked out by Diabetes Specialist at a Hospital. You may have 'fat lumps' in your injection sites(?)

..I should add that at one poin - out of desperation - I fasted for 3 days and was able to see these huge spikes in my blood-sugar graph at the same times of day. (Looked a bit like 'Damped Simple Harmonic Motion' - presumably as my energy reserves were being depleted.)
