I read a blog this morning that summed things up nicely for today. Thought I would share a bit with you:

"Today we ask for a little awareness. We want people to know what diabetes is, the difference between Type 1 and Type 2, and how it affects all of us, globally. We want people to know that we don't want pity. We want a chance. A chance to live well with this disease and a chance to one day be cured"

I'm bumping my own post because I think this quote should be seen by as many people as possible today! :)

Arrogant/unhelpful people. Spiders/bugs basically anything with 6-8 legs. Creeps me out.
Hate mud unless I'm camping oddly
Absolutely!

Well summed up, could you pm me the blog as well please, would be interested to read.

I'm donning my DiabetesUK tshirt in work today. It's working well so far though as I've spent all morning explaining the different types of diabetes and what we can and cannot do. A lot of people are really shocked at the statistics and what we do on a daily basis. Fingers crossed if we all do this it will help with awareness.

Thank you, That's a good message for today.
World Diabetes day doesn't seem to get that much publicity.

Can I highjack your post a bit to remind people that it isn't to late to do the Big Blue Test.

1. Test your blood glucose. If you do not have diabetes, you can skip this step.
2. Get active. For 14 to 20 minutes, get up and get moving. You can , walk, run, clean the house, swim, tap dance…whatever!
3. Test again. On average, Big Blue Testers have seen their blood glucose level drop 20% after 14-20 minutes of exercise.
4. Share your results on the website. Each test triggers a donation to help projects for people with Diabetes in Haiti, Dominan Republic (and sadly it's needed) in the US

or to foster awareness

maybe a bit late for this one for the JDRF but you could be brave and do it in the evening

Great pheonix thanks! It's not hijacking as it's all for the same day :)

I'll just post the blog here. If that's not allowed then crack on and delete it mods! I'm never sure of the rules :S

Definitely well summed up

It's days like this that we can reflect on how far we've come and what the future could hold in regards to treatment and a possible cure.

As a person with diabetes, this email is the first I've heard of Diabetes Day. If I don't know about it, how is anyone who doesn't have diabetes going to learn anything. I have seen no publicity whatsoever.

It's a shame you haven't heard of it. But at least now you'll know for next year!
