I understand what you are trying to get through to us I am a carer and when I go into someone's house tripping over oxygen pipes hearing them rasping for breath they ask me do you smoke and when I say yes they are desperate to make me see the end result and practically beg me to give to give up I make false promises I still smoke but there message is the same as yours don't be like them only the kindest of hearts can see beyond themselves and don't want others to suffer

YES. thankfully I am under the care of a Specialist Pain Clinic, and taking part in a Program run by Medical Psychology, but in the end there is only SO much they can help,

As you say eventually the chance survival shrinks to Zero, and I reached that point, My purpose here is YES a little support for me and my family, but mainly just to show what horror MIGHT just face others who perhaps neglect to take Diabetes seriously,

I'm sorry for whatever you have faced,

And I love being here, reading the many threads, . Learning more about Diabetes, and wishing I had done more earlier, but yes I do find my time here productive,

Don't pity me, pity my family,

Winter!
I have autonomic neuropathy - it affects my stomach and blood pressure mostly. I also live with chronic pain from peripheral neuropathy. Then in September this year I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer - all the result of mismanaging type 1 diabetes in order to lose weight.

I'm fighting every day - and I WILL beat these, I'm 43 years old and neither diabetes nor cancer are beating me!

Hi.kaman. interesting to read your comments. Now you have frightened me. I to have diabetic neuropathy and the pain.not in a wheel chair yet. Your the first. I have read on the threads. Be it a warning to others. The doctors bont tell you about it.if yoy take metformin get some B12:vitamin down yo u now as metform in depletes it and it is needed for your nerves.again doctors dont tell you this, What tablets do you take to control the pain. I must have had undiagnosed type two diabeties for a long time berfore being diagnosed. mmol 17. got it down to about 7.5 now but the damage had been done. Anybody else lets hear from you.its not nice to know but at least a cumfor t to swap info on tablets that work etc.

 What a great attitude-B*llocks to cancer I say!

I'm 37 now but developed squamous cell carcinoma of the sigmoid/descending colon in my early/mid thirties,it had spread to my lymph nodes and things looked very bleak and with great fear but a determination to rid myself of this parasite so I could watch my kiddies grow up and grow old with the love of my life I underwent a colectomy procedure along with removal of twenty something lymph nodes-awoke many hours later in the recovery room and knew something was different somehow and my first croaky words were "I haven't got a colostomy have I?" to which I was told "I'm really sorry but they had to as it was a very difficult operation but the consultant believes there's a chance it can be reversed in time" It was as tough as hell to be honest living with the stoma and in 2012 a follow up CT scan revealed a new sinister blow-a tumour on my liver which was almost certainly looking like a secondary spread from the original tumour-things looked very dark indeed and a liver biopsy was performed to confirm the suspicions and all I could think was "**** this thing to hell-You aint getting ME yet!" and imagine my shock and delight when my consultant sat me down and told me the pathology came back as it being benign in origin instead of cancer-there was a chance it could turn cancerous in the future but equally there was a big chance it wouldn't and I opted for that...Early this year I underwent a successful Hartmanns procedure reversal which meant I was free of my bag at last and counting my lucky stars that despite the bleakness of my earlier prognosis and the difficulties of living with a stoma-you never know what fate has in store for you and sometimes fate is not set in stone and against all odds-things can turn around for the better.

Best wishes

Nothing is written, but to win you have to fight. Give it your best or you will never know what you can achieve.

No worries mate  I don't mention it a lot these days as I'm hoping it's all behind me but I wrote about it today in the hope that others who may feel all is hopeless can gain some hope that things can change for the good despite things looking utterly bleak.

((Man hug back))

Staying positive counts for a lot. A couple of years ago my son was diagnosed with a sarcoma and, at the age of 28, had only a 20% chance of surviving one year. He however would only talk in terms of 'when I am better'. I had a list of ten boxes that needed ticks, stages of treatment, tests that needed the right results etc. One by one, they were all ticked. He appears to be completely recovered and, God willing, will live a long and healthy life. I hope you can dig deep and find that courage and that strength.
