I have felt really bad all week with my OGTT looming. I was in my house just now and I started gagging really really BADLY. My eyes went puffy and watery, I started sobbing hysterically and I was hysterical, I was begging my Mum not to leave me but she had to go out. I still carried on retching so violently that I felt like my body was going to explode. I also felt like I was going to die imminently. I was on the verge of asking my Mum to take me to A&E for emergency specialist help.

I had to grab a can of Holsten Pils and it has taken me over 90 minutes to drink it but just having that 1 can of beer has calmed me down temporarily. I have suffered from anxiety for 9 years since I was 16 but it has got much worse this year and I have had daily retching nearly everyday since about September this year and it is slowly destroying me and it has now made me agoraphobic. I have lost my job as a result of the retching and I am now too scared to venture more than a mile away from home in case I end up overwhelmed with this disgusting affliction.

Are Diabetes and/or low blood sugar levels related to anxiety? Should I be sectioned? I don't think I can manage to make it to the hospital for my OGTT as I just know that my retching will be off the scale if I have to sit in a medical environment for 3 hours with no food or drink.

Please guys please help me, I am so scared and I feel like I have lost my mind, everything feels horrendous and I feel truly insane.

You must feel very scarred, you could telephone and request a home visit from your gp there are people who can help you with your problems, which sound awful and maybe to big to manage on your own.
There are professionals who can help you cope and manage your levels of anxiety and medication if required. Take some control, and try hard to stay positive. Do you practice relaxing you can get some good relaxation music yo help you and many positive thinking books, but suggest your gp first.... Tc Kat

Hi Kat I am really sorry to burden you but thank you for your compassion. I mentioned this to my GP months ago but he didn't think much of it, he was absolutely bemused. All my blood tests that he sent me for came back clear but the Glucose tests both produced high results. However severe retching and terror aren't signs of Diabetes or IGT so I am wondering if I should walk into A&E and demand a upper GI Series Test to see what they can find in my stomach or digestive system? Like I said I have had some terrible stuff happen to me this year and I am 90% sure that my episodes of retching must be attributed to anxiety, but I also feel like I have lost my mind as well.

You really sound like you need to have a professional sit up and hear what you have to say about your feelings...
You could request a different gp, to go to a walk in centre or a and e but I think a good gp is your better choice and the sooner the better, you really need to talk to someone..... Being sectioned is a last resort, there are other ways of managing your anxiety and physical problems, really there are.......
Try and stay calm. Think about about positive things, write them down even, you know one step at a time , positive thinking only, rather than negative ones, negative thinking is not good for your health, do things which make you feel relaxed, take some control, not easy , and find the gp who will help you, don't give up. And try not to panic....
Your physical problems may not have anything to do with feelings of anxiety, look after yourself, put yourself first and seek advice ......tc Kat :)

Thank you again Kat! I am a lot calmer now but I still feel horrible in myself, I really don't know how I am going to get through the OGTT with no-one with me. I just know that I am going to be retching uncontrollably and this in turn is going to cause alarm and distress to other patients in the waiting room with me and the nurses who are carrying out my test are going to be very concerned. I am crying now as I write this... WHAT AM I GOING TO DO??? Can I be sedated whilst I have my OGTT???

Calum, please read the PM that I just sent to you, its highly likely that given your current state of anxiety you will be offered a mild sedative at the clinic.
